Ripple Scarf Recipe

There are some lovely knit and crochet stitches that work with decrease and increase stitches to create undulating waves and ripples. Old Shale is a well know traditional example of this.

Old Shale or Feather and Fan on YouTube.

We often use these stitches in shop samples, to show off more than one colour of a new yarn.

So I thought I would share with you a simple recipe for making a less-lacy, ripple stitch scarf (pdf) , as shown in the top picture. I have made several examples of this stitch pattern in different Koigu colourways.

These colours of Koigu are currently out of stock, but they give you some idea of how versatile this pattern can be. I’ve put together some Koigu colours that we do have in stock, that I think would look delicious for a Spring scarf. Give them a try and let me know the results.

I love using Koigu…. and would like to see your “recipe” but I can’t get the pdf to open. It just comes up with an error message. Is anyone else having trouble with this?

Thanks for your blogging efforts! I love seeing your ideas and keeping up with your Loop news.

  • Thanks, it’s fine now! It looks like a great way to use a couple of pretty skeins of yarn.

Gorgeous scarf but I think the recipe has errors on it. When I tried to make it bigger by adding 12 extra stitches it wouldn’t work and so I looked at the chart and had huge problems reading it as I usually follow only annotated recipes. Anyway, the answer is that you need 18 extra stitches in order to add an extra ripple.. I think. I am managing with the 42 stitches and probably won’t now make the scarf wider.

I think the chart is a little off. The chart key needs work. It would seem that / means knit, but I think you may have meant for / to mean k2tog, and the squat v with a 2 would seem to have two meanings k2tog and kfb
