Pop Spots!

Pop Spots knit in Isager Tvinni Tweed in Charcoal, Pale Lilac with Grey & Pale Grey

A lot of you are already ‘popping’ but we thought we’d go ahead and share the fabulous new pattern by Juju Vail for Loop here on the blog!

Pop Spots in Tvinni

Pop Spots is as fun to knit as it is to admire – you’re bound to learn a new technique while at the same time marvelling at the way your chosen colours work together.

Half the fun is in choosing the colours – you get to choose 2-3 different colours and then decide which one will ‘pop’! There’s already a lively group of knitters doing just that over on the Loop Ravelry group –  we’ve got a knit-a-long (KAL) going for all who want to join in!

There are some intrepid knitters who’ve finished their shawls already, like our pattern-editor-extraordinaire, Rachel.

Rachel's Pop Spots in Wollmeise 100% Merino in Olio Vergine & Natur

Rachel used Wollemeise 100% Merino in the colours Olio Vergine and Natur. This shawl is so happy and bright, it’s one of our favourite ever!

We have also done a few different versions of the stitch pattern to show off how different colours and yarns can work in wonderfully different ways – take for example this version using a strand each of two different green yarns, and a strand each of two different blue yarns.

You can achieve some seriously amazing effects with colour and texture by playing around with the yarns you use. In this example we used Debbie Bliss Angel in colour 27 (Teal) with Isager Strick Tvinni Tweed in colour 26 (Turquoise) for the blues and Isager Strick Alpaca 1 in colour 40 Chartreuse with Schoppel Wolle Crazy Zauberball in 2081 (Olive Street) for the greens.

Below we’ve swatched up some Isager Highland Wool in the colour Sky followed by the colour Ocean held together with Isager Alpaca 1 in Seagreen. The spots are in Crazy Zauberball’s Autumn Winds. The possibilities are endless!

By now you might be wondering how those spots pop! It’s a technique that will be new to a lot of people, so we thought you might also like a detail shot of how the back of the knitting looks.

Once you get knitting, this picture will just help you make sure you’re doing everything right! Here it is again from the back in our blue-green combo:

So what yarns and colours will you knit your Pop Spots in? Tell us in the comments section here, and then head over to the KAL and get popping!
