It is hot, hot, hot here in London, but like knitters do, we are thinking ahead to cooler weather, tucked up with our yarn and needles! This week we announced our Autumn class lineup, and there is so much for every level of knitter or crocheter to try, from beginners to those of you who have been stitching for decades.
In addition to our beginner knitting and crochet classes (perfect for those who have never held needles or a hook, or did so long ago they wouldn’t know what to do with them now!), there are also classes for those of you ready to take the next step – Improvers! For knitters, this means learning more about tension and gauge, reading patterns, increasing and decreasing stitches, cables, knitting in the round and some finishing techniques. You’ll move on from plain old scarves in no time!
If you’re ready to try out a new technique, then we’ve also got some really fabulous workshops for you. Try Lace Knitting with Jemima, where you’ll learn all the stitches, tips and tricks necessary to produce a beautiful lace shawl. Jemima will also be teaching a very handy Fixing Mistakes workshop so you’re never again at a loss when you’ve dropped a stitch, skipped a row, or just completely got yourself into a muddle!
Our resident knitter extraordinaire, Juju, has added some fantastic new workshops to the Loop lineup this year too! Juju will be teaching her Fair Isle the Continental Way and Finishing Techniques workshops as usual, but will also be giving Outside the Stitch Dictionary and Hat workshops. If you’ve ever wondered how to design a new stitch pattern, Outside the Stitch Dictionary is for you! This class will explore a practical approach to designing new fabrics and construction details while learning to keep track of discoveries and file them in a useful way. It’s set to be a unique and unmissable class for experienced knitters!
Juju’s Hats: Size, Shape, Fit & Style Workshop is a great way for improvers to experiment with design too. This class will look at common shapes such as beanies, toques and berets, and use a few simple measurements to get you on your way to modifying a pattern or creating your own!
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Loop class line-up without a couple of visits from our famous knitting (and crocheting!) friends! The very talented and lovely Aoibhe Ni will be returning to Loop from Dublin to teach her wonderful Tunisian crochet techniques! And although not yet scheduled, we’re so pleased that Stephen West will back at Loop this Autumn to teach – if you’d like to sign up to the waiting list for his workshops, or book for any of our classes, just give us a ring!
But Autumn seems so far away right now, no? If you’re in need of some woolly goodness in the meantime, don’t forget we have a delivery of beautiful Wollmeise yarn arriving in the shop on Saturday 27th July! Hop over to the shop for the first chance to buy these beauties. If you’re not in town, you’ll be able to order over the phone starting Sunday July 28th from 11 am UK time. You can view a list of what we’ll be getting in stock and keep track of what we still have on Sunday in our Ravelry group. Until then, stay cool!
