Summer Butterflies and Dreamy Lace

Monarch By Paulina P in Eden Cottage Theseus Lace. Loop, London. www.loopknitlounge.com

Delicate and airy, Monarch Butterfly is a shawl perfect for summer. Light to knit and wear, this new Paulina P design shows off the soft glow of the silky Theseus Lace. Team this with the fantastic new blocking spray Flatter and you have your next holiday accessory (or project) ready to go.

The gossamer like stitches create a butterfly lace motif that frame the edge of this crescent shaped shawl. Knit sideways, the clever design means you can use up every scrap of yarn by weighing what you have and when you have half a skein left then you have the first half of your shawl! Of course, always leave a few extra grams just in case. The pattern lends itself to beading to give some sparkle and weight, but we think it would be just as pretty without.

The distinct colours of Eden Cottages’ Titus 4ply and Bowland DK have already been admired by many of you on our shelves and now we have the gorgeous Theseus Lace to swoon over. A base of 25% silk with 75% merino that has been superwash treated means a yarn that is smooth and soft with a subtle sheen. One skein is enough to make this beautiful shawl, shown here in the colour Driftwood. However, as butterflies come in a myriad of shades, what colour will your butterfly be?

Lacey knits such as Monarch need blocking to show the beauty of such a delicate pattern, but sometimes you might not want to wet and soak something so fine. Flatter by Soak is a new blocking spray, like starch but not as stiff to give subtle definition and shape to your knits. Simply spray a fine mist over your shawl and then pin as you normally would and leave to dry. Flatter is made from plant derived and renewable ingredients, therefore lessening the impact on the environment and leaving no nasty residue on precious knits.

Intrigued at how Flatter could revolutionise your blocking? Well you could be the lucky reader who wins a bottle in the scent of your choice. We have the classic unscented, yummy fig and citrus-y Yuzu. Simply leave a comment letting us know which one would you like and we will draw a name out of the hat next week. This competition closes on Wednesday 23rd July at midnight.

Good luck and Happy knitting!

Scentless for me please. I’ve been admiring Paula’s Butterfly. Knitting with lace weight yarn is sooo intimidating for me. But the Monarch Butterfly shawl would be worth the plunge. I live in Pacific Grove, California – where over 25,000 Monarch Butterflies winter every year. Pacific Grove is nicknamed “Butterfly Town, U.S.A.” I think this was meant to be.

    Cheers from across the pond,
