La Bien Aimeé Merino Sport and a dreamy new shawl kit at Loop!
The new-to-Loop La Bien Aimeé Merino Sport has made an appearance, and it is gorgeous! For now we’ve received five beautiful hand-dyed colours from Paris but we are expecting lots more in the coming days. The Merino Sport is a soft, three-ply superwash merino with a high twist that absorbs the hand-dyed colour so beautifully.
If you are not familiar with sportweight yarn, it is slightly heavier than a 4ply and somewhat lighter than a DK. As a result, you can generally use it as a substitute for both weights, but make sure you swatch to check your tension! Sportweight yarns are really versatile for lightweight sweaters, baby garments and accessories.
The Uptown Shawl, designed by Danish designer Susie Haumann is a gorgeous triangular shawl that uses only one skein of a 4ply or sport weight yarn and 50 grams of a lace weight silk/mohair yarn. We fell in love with this design as soon as we saw it and have put together a kit for you using the super soft and beautiful La Bien Aimeé Merino Sport and Gepard Kid Seta. Each kit comes with a special edition Loop Anniversary project bag and all the yarn you’ll need to complete the shawl. The pattern is available through Susie’s Ravelry shop or her website.
The shawl is a versatile size and is super easy to customise with extra yarn if you’d like something larger – although we think this is a great everyday size.
The Merino Sport and Kid Seta are used alternately with a clever slip stitch technique, so you only ever use one yarn at a time. The result is a beautiful texture with a soft halo of mohair, hand-dyed colour peeking through in the background and finished with a soft minimal I-cord in Kid Seta Silk and Mohair.
For our kit, we’ve chosen the colour ‘Dusk’ in the La Bien Aimeé Merino Sport paired with a soft neutral called ‘Mink’ in the Gepard Kid Seta. Perfection! Of course, if you fancy a different colour – we have 70 colours in the Kid Seta to pair with the La Bien Aimeé Merino Sport. You could also try any of our other beautiful hand-dyed 4ply yarns like Madelinetosh Merino Light, La Bien Aimeé Merino Singles, Life in the Long Grass Fine Sock or Life in the Long Grass Merino Sport. The Uptown Shawl is such a relaxing knit, great for any skill level and so beautiful!
We’ll have more photographs on the website for you soon as more yarn arrives. Happy knitting!
The always coveted Viola Yarns are back in mini sock bundles! All Viola yarns are thoughtfully dyed by hand in small batches, which are never the same twice. Emily’s gorgeous colour palette is seen here in 5 mini 20-gram twists, adding up to one full 100-gram skein of sock yarn. There are two bundle colour choices, silver and gold, each consisting of a different colour palette. Ideal for adding stripes and contrasting heels and toes in infinite possibilities!
A lovely new embroidery book has landed in the shop. Stitch in Bloom celebrates the traditional art of couching, an embellishment technique used to adorn fabrics. London based textile artist and designer Lora Avedian specialises in embroidery and embellishment for modern artefacts and has made couture textiles for interiors, arts and fashion. Lora shows us lots of ways to enhance pre-owned garments and accessories and creating statement pieces for the home inspired by nature.
For punch needle supplies, we’ve had a delivery of the dyed monk’s cloth pieces. These are very high quality monk’s cloth used for rug hooking and punch needle. Each one is ‘tea stained’ by hand with a vintage look to them in various shades. The cloth has also been sewn to have finished edges making it much nicer to do punch needle on. We also have some great hoops from Clover which are slightly deeper and perfect for punch needle projects.
