A closer look at Malabrigo Rios and a new kit!

A closer look at Malabrigo Rios and a new kit!

Malabrigo Rios is a worsted weight yarn and is one of our all-time favourites at Loop. Considered Malabrigo’s workhorse yarn, it is perfect for all sorts of projects from garments to accessories. It has a 4ply construction making it hard-wearing and resistant to pilling. Being spun from premium super soft merino wool makes it excellent for wearing next to the skin.

Although Malabrigo Rios is superwash-treated, making it machine washable on a cold or wool cycle, it is a hand-dyed yarn with beautiful variegated colour making your skeins unique. Keep in mind, though; it is best to alternate hand-dyed skeins in your projects to avoid colour differences and ensure even colour distribution.

We recently received two new beautiful colours in the Rios called Winter Lake and Reflecting Pool.

Pattern Ideas

  • Forestland sweater by Jennifer Steingass is a striking circular yoke sweater that knits up quickly in a worsted weight yarn.
  • Winterfell cardigan by Katrin Schneider – a classic cardigan with twisted stitches for interest would bring out the rich colour of the Rios beautifully.
  • Hankshaw pullover by Amy Christoffers is another yoked sweater with just one contrasting colour for the colour work yoke.
  • Beekeeper Cardigan by Marie Greene is a fun and textured cardigan with a unique saddle shoulder shaping. The texture and style of this cardigan would be perfect for the smoothness of the Rios to show off the stitch and beautiful colour.

Recent Arrivals
Lichen and Lace

We are excited to have received a large delivery of Lichen and Lace in all the bases. Lichen and Lace Merino Fingering is another beautiful hand-dyed yarn. With its single-ply construction and softness, it adds a distinct aesthetic to your knits. Most single-ply yarns have a little halo and often have a light and lofty feel to it. We think this yarn’s gorgeous colour and beauty is best for shawls and other accessories to show it off.

For a more rustic look, we have the Lichen and Lace Rustic heather sport used in the Late Bloomer Mitts that we have kitted up for you and featured in Making Magazine issue 10. This yarn is an excellent choice for garments and accessories with a more “rustic” or ‘woolly” look to them.

For a plied version of the Lichen and Lace in the same beautiful colour palette of variegated hand-dyed beauty we have the Lichen and Lace merino sock minis. These little mini skeins are a fingering weight with a bit of nylon for strength and perfect for pops of added colour to your socks or other accessories.

52 Weeks of Socks

Speaking of socks, we have had a new delivery of the 52 weeks of socks books by Laine Publishing. 52 weeks of socks is a real encyclopedia of sock patterns with 52 knitting patterns by 46 designers and full of gorgeous photographs. Laine Magazine Issue 10 is also back in stock at Loop. Using Biches & Buches Le Petit Lambswool, De Rerum Natura Ulysse and Brooklyn Tweed Shelter it’s full of winter inspiration.
