Next weekend at Edinburgh Yarn Festival we’ll be launching Andrea Mowry’s new cowl pattern kit ‘Across The Pond’, created in a special collaboration between Spincycle Yarns, Andrea and Loop, to launch at Loop’s stand at EYF! Knitted with Spincycle Yarns’ newest colourway  ‘Melancholia’ in ‘Dyed In The Wool‘, and paired with their Private Label milled merino sportweight in ‘Natural Grey’. The Across The Pond kits will include the yarn and pattern all wrapped up in a specially designed project bag, celebrating our collaboration for the festival. Loop will be hosting the ‘Spinsters’ at our stand H1, where they will be between 2-3 on Friday and Saturday, so don’t hesitate to come by and say hello.

Today we take a closer look at Andrea’s sweet new design!

We caught up with the designer herself, to get her thoughts on the design.

“As I began dreaming up a cowl design for Spincycle’s gorgeous yarn, I knew I wanted to create a mash up using two different techniques, and that at least one of the techniques involved colorwork. Spincycle’s Dyed in the Wool yarn takes colorwork to the next level with the way it melts from one tone to the next. I love it!

A cowl is the perfect canvas for trying out some new techniques, and mosaic knitting is a favorite of mine! My love for knitting drew me to the graphic herringbone stitch pattern you see in “Across the Pond.” I love that it looks like big knit stitches! Mosaic knitting is also an awesome introduction to colorwork, as you are only ever dealing with one strand of yarn at a time.

I also really love eyelets, and add them into patterns whenever I can! I found that the angles of the mosaic pattern balance out the round polka dots of the eyelets. Utilizing some different techniques and styles in this cowl also felt like a way to represent the colliding of two really awesome businesses – Spincycle Yarns & Loop London! The resulting cowl is so easy to wear. I love to thrown it on with jeans and a t-shirt, or dressed up with my favorite  jacket. I hope you love it, too!!”

We really do Andrea, thank you! You can find more of Andrea’s work at @dreareneeknits on Instagram and of course on Ravelry.

We are absolutely infatuated with this design and can’t wait to share it with you! Keep your eyes peeled at EYF if you’re there, and if there are any kits left after the festival (and that’s a a big “if”) we’ll have the kits available in our shop. If they sell out, we’ll order more for the shop as soon as we can, but as always with labours of love, it requires a little patience.

Spincycle’s Dyed In The Wool is a yarn that we have loved since it first arrived, and we just received a big new shipment of it, as well as more of the Gumshoe Cowl, Clementine Cowl and Hank Hat kits. It’s an incredibly unique yarn, hand dyed, mill spun, and has the most lovely bounce and incredible colours.

Huge thanks to everyone who entered last week’s giveaway! The winner of one ball of Orkney Angora’s St Magnus in ‘Ghost’ is Denise – congratulations!

Making’s ‘Fauna’ issue is now sold out, but the great news is that ‘Flora’ is being reprinted, and should be with us some time in April. These are sure to go quickly, so feel free to send us an email to be notified when it’s back in stock.

We have also had another batch of Orkney Angora delivered, so all the colours (including our special colour ‘Ghost’) are now back in stock.
