Another Year of Sock Knits from Laine Lands Today!

Another Year of Sock Knits from Laine Lands Today!

Welcome to the world, 52 Weeks of Socks Volume II! Sock knitters the world over know that Laine’s 52 Weeks of Socks is the go-to collection of sock patterns, and the second edition is just as good as the first!

There are so many amazing socks in this book it’s hard to know where to start, and some of our favourite designers, collaborators, and friends have contributed. In addition to a design by the lovely former Loopette Emma Brace, the socks in this collection use yarns from some of our favourite yarn makers — La Bien Aimée, Daughter of a Shepherd, and more. It would be impossible to pick favourites, but here are a few of the designs that stand out to us.

“Anni” socks by Emma Ducher in Uncommon Thread Everyday Sock

First up are the Anni socks designed by Emma Ducher. The colour block pattern here is funky without being too loud, and leaves tons of room for play and experimentation with different colours. Three different colours are used here, one main colour and two contrasting colours, but you could easily swap in your own special mix. The yarn used here is Uncommon Thread Everyday Sock, which is very easy to substitute for Uncommon Thread Tough Sock, which we have at Loop. The main difference between the two is the composition. Everyday Sock uses merino wool with 25% manufactured fibres while Tough Sock uses wool with 20% manufactured fibres, making it a bit more hardy.

“Flou” by Fabienne Gassmann

What’s not to love about the Flou socks by Fabienne Gassmann? These socks from the designer behind Loop’s Cloud Cardigan are totally dreamy and fun. How cute would they look with a sandal or sneaker this summer? Mix and match any sock yarn and silk mohair that strikes your fancy and you’ll be all set to flounce around flaunting these beauties.

“My Favourite Yoga Socks” by Ara Stella

If you’re looking for a sock with a difference, try My Favourite Yoga Socks by Ara Stella. These open-toe, open-heel socks will keep your feet and ankles warm during yoga, pilates, or any other matt exercise without making you slip. Ara Stella wanted these socks to have “a cool ’90s vibe” and we just love the result!

“Gaufrette” socks by Alma Bali in La Bien Aimée Super Sock

Finally, we just want to eat up the Gaufrette socks by ALma Bali using La Bien Aimée Super Sock. These waffley socks are cosy and practical, and the LBA Tough Sock is a perfect substitute for Super Sock. We have Tough Sock in the shop in the original pattern colours “Ponyo + Sosuke” and “Goldenrod” as well as 25 others, any of which would be fabulous for this sock pattern. We’ll have more stock ahead of our weekend celebrating Aimée’s Neons & Neutrals at the end of April (stay tuned for more details on that coming soon!)

We’ve been so excited about the launch of this book that we’ve already put together kits for the Bequem Eleganz socks designed by Emma Brace and the super fun and colourful Pinwheel socks. (Note that you’ll need to buy 52 Weeks of Socks Volume II to get the pattern for each of these kits.) Time to get knitting!

Stock Up on Sock Yarns

Beautiful sock yarns at Loop!

As you plan your new sock knits you’ll inevitably be after some lovely sock yarns. In addition to yarns featured in 52 Weeks of Socks Volume II like Daughter of a Shepherd Drover Sock and Lang Jawoll we have a huge range of really wonderful sock yarns that would make perfect substitutes. For a colourful pair, Lichen and Lace Sock Minis or (Vi)laines Boulettes Chausettes (which we stock in no less than 60 colours) are perfect just the ticket. Why not get enough for a couple of pairs with Hue Loco 50’s Merino Sets, which are on sale while supplies last. These zany hand-dyed skeins from the US are super fun and strong enough to tolerate plenty of wear. Check out our whole selection!

Summer Fruits Stitch Marker Sets

Summer Fruits Stitch Marker Sets come in cherry, strawberry, pineapple, and Lemon

It may still feel impossibly far away, but summer will arrive someday soon, and until it does you can bring a bit of the season into your day with new Summer Fruits Stitch Marker Sets. Each set contains five Czech glass bead and brass charm stitch markers as well as an enameled cherry, strawberry, pineapple, or lemon.

Knitting SOS

Don’t forget this Sunday 2 April is our monthly Knitting SOS, when you can bring whatever knitting issue currently has you stumped and we’ll do our best to get you un-stuck. There’s no need to book, but if your issue is complex do give us a head’s up by emailing shop@loopknitting.com a few days in advance. And if you fancy learning a bit more about stitching on Sunday afternoon, there’s one spot available in our Visible Mending Class with Katrina Rodabaugh, where you can learn the basics of stitches and patching and then get started mending a garment you bring along. See you then!

Happy crafting!
