Dreaming with Dee Hardwicke: A Butterfly Wrap, a Brand New Book, and a Christmas Window

Dreaming with Dee Hardwicke: A Butterfly Wrap, a Brand New Book, and a Christmas Window

Autumn leaves may be the only things fluttering right now, but we’ve got butterflies on the brain thanks to Dee Hardwicke’s beautiful new Dreaming of Butterflies Wrap Kit, which is available for pre-order today!

The Dreaming of Butterflies wrap, modelled by designer Dee Hardwicke at Loop!

Oh my gosh we have been so excited to share this incredibly special wrap with all of you and we are so honoured that Dee has been just as keen as we are to bring it into the world! Dreaming of Butterflies is a wonderfully cosy wrap that’s a riff on a pattern in Dee’s forthcoming book The Knitted Fabric, which we’ll host a Book Launch Event for in the shop on Saturday 26 November. The kit will also officially launch that week!

Ok but more on the wrap itself and the kit we’ve made for you. As you may know, Dee’s work is inspired by the natural world and by the Welsh countryside where she lives and creates. The butterfly motif here is so joyful and tactile we just can’t help falling in love. This long rectangular wrap is knit in John Arbon Textiles Knit by Numbers DK, a gorgeous yarn from the bucolic Devon countryside.

We’ve brought a bit of the spirit of London to this countryside creation with some custom colourways we’ve whipped up paying homage to Mary Quant and Swinging London. The Marmalade, Crimson, and Rose Madder colourways each bring a unique expression to Dee’s fabulous sense of texture and pattern.

Each kit comes with nine skeins of Knit by Numbers DK, a really beautiful custom cotton project bag designed by Dee to accompany this pattern, a printed version of the Dreaming of Butterflies pattern, and a bonus gift pattern to make button covers in Dee’s butterfly motif using any yarn that might be left over when you’re finished with your knit.

Dee’s Butterfly Button Cover pattern will use up any leftover bits of yarn from your Dreaming of Butterflies kit

The first 40 kits will also include a limited edition card lovingly hand-printed and hand-stitched in Ito Silk by Dee! The Butterfly Project Bag is based on Dee’s original watercolour that inspired the butterfly motif and is also available to purchase separately.

This project has been a true labour of love and a collaboration between so many incredible women, from the publishers of Laine Publishing to the co-directors of John Arbon Textiles to Dee herself and, of course, Susan and the lovely Loopettes!

We can’t wait to celebrate the launch of Dee’s book in the shop on 26 November with Dee, Jonna from Laine, and tons of samples from the book. All are welcome on the day, it is not a ticketed event. Dee and Jonna will be with us from noon to 5pm, though they will pop out for lunch at some point. We hope to see you on the day! The Knitted Fabric is full of wonderful knitwear for you and your home, including nine cushions, three wraps, three quilts, two sweaters, one vest, one hat, and one pair of gloves. You are sure to find inspiration in Dee’s artistic patterns and motifs.

We are also thrilled that Dee will be painting our window for Christmas in early November. Her beautiful work will be on full display at the book launch, or you might be lucky enough to catch her on your next stroll through Camden Passage.
