Getting Ready for the Sun with Laine 17
Here comes the sun! Laine 17 is on the horizon and it’s full of sunny, summery knits we can’t wait to get on our needles.
We’re so excited to welcome Laine’s “Here Comes the Sun” issue to the world on 5 May. This issue beckons in a long-awaited summer with 11 knitting patterns, articles about French, Australian, Māori, and Finnish knitters, and a special report on how you can get started designing your own knitwear. Laine 17 is available for preorder now, and while we wait for it to arrive on our shelves we’re taking a closer look at some of our favourite patterns in this issue.
Julia Disini’s Dress to Impress sweater speaks for itself. It’s fun, fancy, and fluffy without being too precious. It’s the perfect piece to throw on for weekend strolls through town before the fog has lifted or to top off a glam summer outfit when you suspect the evening chill might arrive before the end of your night. If you’re keen to get this sweater on the sticks it’s your lucky day because Kokon Chunky Mohair is on sale! We also have mini skeins of this yarn if you want to play with colour.
Speaking of summer sweaters, Kainuu by Maija Vasala is the very berry top layer of our dreams. This sweater is based on the traditional mitten pattern from the Kainuu region of Finland, where Maija grew up. A loose fit and cropped sleeves and hem give this sweater a summery feel and bring a touch of funky modernity to the folklore-inspired design. We have a huge range of fingering weight yarns that would be lovely for this sweater. The Border Mill North Coast Tweed would suit this pattern perfectly, and with boxes of 21 or 50 mini skeins in mixed colours, the colourwork here would be easy to achieve.
Veronika Lindberg’s chunky, slouchy Linescapes uses one of our favourite yarns, CaMaRose Snefnug. This pattern is easy and quick to knit up — dare we suggest it’s the perfect beach knit? Snefnug is super soft and knits up super lofty and cosy. This one will definitely be a constant companion in our day packs this season.
Finally, what’s more summery than an ice cream cone? Not much, in our books. That’s why Jacqueline Rivera’s Socks À La Mode are the perfect summer sock. Originally designed in The Uncommon Thread Smooth Sock, The Uncommon Thread Tough Sock would work perfectly for these socks as well. And with 57 colours at Loop, you can make socks in whatever ice cream flavour you want!
Mouche & Friends: Seamless Toys to Knit and Love has arrived! This is such a special book by Cinthia Vallet, featuring patterns for 12 sweet animal toys plus their clothes and accessories. Step-by-step instructions and helpful tips and insights make this book a breeze to follow for those who haven’t made toys before and a handy guide for those who have been around the block. Coming Soon: La Bien Aimée Neons & Neutrals Project Bags!
As we get ready to welcome Aimée Gille later this month to celebrate the launch of her new collection Neons & Neutrals, we’re very excited to give you this sneak peek at the lovely project bag we’ve designed just for the occasion. Those who have tickets to our special sessions with Aimée on the evening of Friday 28 April and the morning of Saturday 29 April will receive these bags as a gift, and they’ll be available to purchase beginning the evening of the 28th as well. We hope to see many of you in the shop on Saturday 29 April from 2 to 5 pm when the shop will be open as usual with Aimée and friends on hand to chat about the new book, share samples, and say hello!
