ITO Japanese Yarns
ITO supply us with exquisite and unusual yarns from small mills in Japan. You may recognise their Sensai Mohair/silk from our recent Blink pattern.
We held it doubled with Isager Highland to create just the sort of texture fluffy but dense fabric we desired.
We are now selling ITO Sensai Mohair and silk wraps made in Japan.
These are knit on very fine gauge knitting machines in workshops in Japan. They come in six colours and would be perfect if you are looking for a very light scarf to keep you warm in the transition to winter.
ITO Karei
ITO make some other beautiful, luxury yarns in silks and cashmere. Karei is a 100% grade-A, Mongolian cashmere with a subtle tweed effect due to small coloured neps.
ITO Karei is woolen spun on a mule spinning system. Woolen spun (as opposed to worsted spun) produces yarn that contains lots of air, making it light and fluffy, with incredible elasticity and bounce. (Worsted spun yarns are usually smoother and denser.)
This creates a yarn that is especially warm and cozy because of the integral air pockets. It also means that this light, fingering weight gives great yardage at 175 metres per 20grams.
ITO Karei is scoured after spinning, and will bloom even more after its first block & wash and after additional washings.
We think you’ll agree this is a perfect light cashmere !
Tadami Scarf
We have a beautiful pattern for the ITO Karei yarn; the Tadami Scarf. This is a generous scarf that you can wrap around your neck several times and wear indoors and out. Light and soft ~ you won’t want to take it off!
It features a bold chevron pattern with asymmetric color blocking. The pattern includes two versions with different lengths of color blocks. The same pattern sequence is worked on both sides of the fabric which makes this scarf an easy knit suitable for beginners who can work yarn overs and decreases. The side selvedges are worked as i-cords for a neat finish.
The finished shawl/scarf is featherweight and very soft!
Free Tadami Scarf Pattern
For three months (until December 22nd), we’re giving away a free copy of the Tadami pattern with every purchase of the ITO Karei yarn to make it (3-4 balls of main colour and 2 balls of contrasting colour). (If you order online, we’ll refund you for the pattern when we process your order.)
More Yarns by ITO
We have some luscious silk yarns from ITO, including Kinu, a lace-weight silk noil and Serishin a silk ribbon yarn. l
Now ITO have brought us the beautiful lace-weight Shimo, which is an 80 wool/20 recycled silk blend in 4 neutral tones and 4 pale tints.
The fibres are mixed before carding, producing a subtle mélange effect. It is also wooden spun, on an old mule spinning system, giving it greater loft and yardage.
All the ITO yarns are great for mixing together or with other yarns in our collection. They can be used to add character, unique colour or other qualities to your knitting yarns.
