Jump into the Woolly Waters of Amirisu Issue 26

It’s nearly time for a new issue of Amirisu! The Spring/Summer issue of this gorgeous magazine launches 9 June and this instalment is all about water and the many places it is found in nature.

Available for preorder now, Amirisu Issue 26 is full to the brim with some of our very favourite yarns: De Rerum Natura Gilliatt, Mrs Moon Plump DK, Isager Highland Wool, La Bien Aimée Merino Singles, Isager Silk Mohair, and Madelinetosh Tosh DK all grace these lovely pages in designs that will bring life and liquified movement to your summer wardrobe. Here are a few of our favourites.

Baltica by Inese Sang

This beautiful, capacious shawl uses two colours of Isager Highland Wool

If you’re knitting patterns based on water, you might as well start with the sea, and that’s just what Inese Sang’s Baltica Shawl reminds us of. With wavy-blue depths and frothy white edges, this pattern shows off the textural beauty of Isager Highland Wool. It’s also a wonderfully large shawl, making it a great statement piece. This one will definitely be coming along to weddings this summer, for when the evening chill sets in.

Sivu by Fiona Alice

Demonstrating that water isn’t always wavy, Fiona Alice’s Sivu Sweater uses two colours of De Rerum Natura Gilliatt to divide this sweater into big blocks. Sivu’s motif makes us think of the tiles at the bottom of a swimming pool demarcating the lanes, and we love that as the wearer moves around throughout the day you get the same line distortions as you do when you look down at the floor tiles from above the surface of the water.

Kuusi by Karen Miller

Karen Miller, the co-founder of Mrs Moon, contributed this pretty open-backed tunic with a rippling lace pattern and a wavy hem. The back slit brings elegance and interest to this garment, which is knit in Mrs Moon’s own super squishy Plump DK. This pattern is written in seven sizes. The green version here is size 1 and the grey version is size 3.

Niemi by Kitman Figueroa

This lovely shawl is knit in La Bien Aimée Merino Singles, which we’re still well stocked up on since Aimée’s recent visit. Kitman Figueroa’s design plays with lace and solid panels for a classic look. This shawl would be a very fun one to play around with colour. It would look great in a rich yellow like “Yellow Brick Road”, neon Buzz, or the moody waters of “Sanho”.

Sea Dress by Pope Vergara

Last but not least is something really special. The Sea Dress designed by Pope Vergara is bound to become an everywhere, any event, all-year-round kind of piece that will just totally elevate any ensemble. Wearable as a dress with a slip underneath or as a top layer to whatever you happen to have on, this knit really breaks new ground. Whether you toss it on over a bathing suit in the summer or over a long sleeve shirt and leggings in the winter, the Sea Dress will never look out of place, and there are so many hues of Isager Silk Mohair you could play with to create your own ombre — earthy greens, citrusy yellows, bright reds, or some other combination all your own.

There are many more patterns to love in Amirisu 26, including two pairs of socks and more shawls and sweaters. This issue also has other fabulous features like an interview with a crafter who makes animals out of fabric and a Craft City Guide to Helsinki, a city with a rich knitting culture. Making Memories with Claudia Quintanilla

Out from Laine Publishing today is a brand new collection by Claudia Quintanilla of knits for children. Making Memories is such a treasure. It’s full of sweet knits that will see your tots from 0 to 10 in style and soft comfort. These patterns are inspired by Claudia’s time at home caring for her young daughter, and her love shines through on every page. We’re clearly not the only ones excited for the release of this book — our first batch of preorders has already sold out! But fear not, we have a whole other batch coming through next week, which you can preorder now.

Happy knitting!

  1. I am knitting the Baltika shawl by Inese Sang. I have got as far as the lace band but cannot work out how the lace pattern works. I don’t seem to have the right amount of stitches when I reach the centre stitch.
Is there a mistake in the repeat part of the pattern?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    • Hi Gillian,

That sounds like a tough one! Loop wasn’t involved in developing this pattern so unfortunately we can’t help here. You might be able to get some information by contacting Amirisu or Inese.
