Loop’s Favourite Cowls!

Favourite Cowls at Loop! When the weather warms up, we love turning to smaller projects we can take on the go, like our Afterthought Heel Socks from last week. Cowls are a great accessory to work on in summer too – they usually only take one or two skeins of yarn and you can build up a collection to give away as Christmas presents come winter! This week, we’ve decided to bring you our edit of cowl patterns to keep your needles happy all summer.

Twin Leaf Loop from Botanical Knits

First up is a cowl from one of our favourite designers, Alana Dakos. Her gorgeous new book Botanical Knits has just arrived at Loop, and we’re in love with her nature-inspired patterns like the Twin Leaf Loop. This cowl takes just 2 skeins of a chunky yarn like Misti Alpaca Chunky and it would look gorgeous in colour 410 Natural Brown or 7238 Chartreuse Melange.

Willa Cowl

Next up, it’s the adorably lacy but modern Willa Cowl by Melissa Labarre for Quince & Co. You need just 2 skeins of the main colour and 1 skein of the contrast colour of Finch, a nice lightweight 4ply yarn – you might even get away with wearing this on a cool summer evening! Quince also have an amazing range of other cowls – check them out here.

Quick, quirky and a free pattern on the Loop blog, the Candy Cowl is a great way to use just one skein of Knit Collage Rolling Stone or Gypsy Garden and a little bit of mohair. You can find the pattern here!

Also free on the Loop blog is a beginner’s favourite – the Grey Owl Cowl. If you haven’t tried different stitch patterns like ribbing, moss or basic cables, this is the pattern to try them out! The pattern calls for 2 skeins of Brown Sheep Burly Spun but we also love it in Quince & Co Puffin like the lovely Jemima is wearing here, or in Malabrigo Twist held double.

Betty Mouat Cowl available at Loop

Another beloved Loop designer, Kate Davies, designed this colourful cowl using a traditional Shetland lace pattern. The Betty Mouat Cowl is perfect for using 9 shades of your favourite colours from our Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift range – there’s over 100 to choose from!

Cowl Girls available at Loop!

And finally, from the Queen of Cowls, Cathy Carron, we love the book Cowl Girls (the title makes us giggle too!). With 35 patterns to choose from, you won’t be short of gift ideas. One of our faves is the Honeycomb Cowl which uses just 2 skeins of Misti Chunky.

  3. Issue 33 of Mollie Makes has an add for Loop. One of the 6 photos is a cowl. I fell in love with it and want to make it. Could you tell me the yarn and pattern used?
