Cashmere for many is the epitome of comfort and luxury and it is true that there is nothing quite like the super softness and warmth that it is famous for. A new treat that has found its place on the shelves at Loop is the 28 sumptuous shades of Lotus Cashmere Fingering.

Though named ‘Fingering’ this yarn is a little finer than your standard 4ply, making it versatile for either heavy laceweight projects or for many vintage patterns that require a 3ply yarn. How gorgeous would our most recent pattern Josephine look in one of the shades of teal above?

Of course it would still be an ideal substitute in any shawl pattern that requires a 4ply yarn and you are spoilt for choice with the range that Loop stocks! One skein wonders like Ishbel and the smaller size of Centrique are just the thing to knit when you want a little bit of indulgence for a cosy neck warmer.

If you have not tried your hand at lace knitting before, our free shawl pattern is a perfect introduction and will guide you through the process. The best thing is that the pattern is written so you can use up every gram of yarn, whether you opt for a one or two skein shawl. These radiant orchid shades are certainly inspiring us – it’s the colour of the year did you know?

Lotus Cashmere could be used for a truly special project such as a wedding shawl. Delicate enough to compliment the subtle beauty of a wedding dress, three skeins would make the beautifully named Moon & Stars Shawl. We were so enamoured with that title it inspired our ‘night sky’ palette below.

For a true heirloom piece, the Leaves of Grass Shawl would be a significant project for the knitter and the recipient. Either gracing a brides shoulders, used as a stunning bedroom coverlet or a delicate christening shawl for a baby, all would showcase the beauty of this yarn and pattern.

Many of you favour cashmere because of its ‘no-itch’ qualities, making it a delight for hats and scarves. Brooklyn Tweed have so many striking patterns, many of which are unisex, such as the cabled hat pattern Eno. As this yarn is a little thinner that the Loft make sure you check your tension!

For those of you who have preparing your knitting for gift giving occasions (it’s certainly too early to mention the C word, but there have been those of you who have visited the shop who are getting organised!) a hand knitted cashmere hat would certainly be appreciated by even the fussiest of recipients. Chose their favourite shade or a beautiful neutral to match any winter coat – soon there will be warm heads (and feelings) all around.
