Patterns We Love from Amirisu Issue 23

Patterns We Love from Amirisu Issue 23

We always love sitting down with a new issue of Amirisu. The patterns, photographs, and articles are always up our street, and issue 23 is no exception. This time, the patterns are inspired by cinema from around the world, so it’s not just inspiring us to knit — it’s also inspiring us to explore new films while we knit! Here are some of our favourite patterns from the latest issue.

We are head over heels for the colourwork in Kitchen Stories by Dianna Walla and Cléo by Orlane Sucche. The motifs in these two sweaters are just wintery enough to make us excited for the season, but not so wintery that they can’t be worn year-round. Kitchen Stories uses two colours of Le Petit Lambswool from Biches & Buches, which we have in the original colours used in this pattern as well as an abundance of others if you’re after a custom combo. Cléo uses Lichen and Lace Rustic Heather Sport, of which we’ve just had a huge delivery, as luck would have it!

This issue also does some lovely play with textures. Hawkins by Nataliya Sinelshchikova, Varda by Paula Pereira, and Fosse by Veronik Avery all feature bold and evocative lines. These patterns take advantage of the lovely stitch definition of De Rerum Natura Ulysse (Hawkins) and Brooklyn Tweed yarns Shelter (Varda) and Arbor (Fosse).

We are incredibly proud to stock Isager yarns, so you can imagine how excited we are that this issue of Amirisu is blessed with two patterns featuring Isager Yarns, and one of them is designed by Isager co-owner Helga Isager herself! Both Virginia by Helga Isager and Michèle by Rievive feature the beautiful yarns of this Danish company. Virginia uses Isager Silk Mohair as well as two other Isager yarns we sadly don’t stock, but we would be happy to help the knitter find substitutes. Michèle uses Isager Silk Mohair as well, complemented by Isager Spinni. The colour options here are honestly endless.

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention two patterns using some of our favourite yarns of all time, one old and one new. The collection includes patterns using mYak’s Tibetan Cloud and La Bien Aimée’s new Corrie Worsted. The feature sleeves of Keiko Kikuno’s Amirah sweater make the most of Tibetan Cloud’s gorgeous stitch definition, while the Bennet shawl, designed by Amirisu, provides yet another way to put Corrie Worsted straight into service. If you’re looking for more ways to use Corrie Worsted, don’t forget to pre-order your copy of Worsted, due out in just one week! Meanwhile, let us know which of these patterns from Amirisu Issue 23 you can’t wait to stitch.

Red Houses by Anne Kelly

Red Houses by Anne Kelly

Anne Kelly’s beautiful creations are once again gracing the shop in the form of her Red Houses! These gorgeous and unique combinations of vintage and found textiles with an intricate mixture of needlework techniques come together to create the sweetest little objects that you’ll keep finding new ways of looking at for years to come. Gorgeous hanging up or displayed on a flat surface, these ornaments are not the kind to box up with all the other Christmas tree decorations.

New Books

We’re so happy to have new books in the shop for three distinct and gorgeous traditional crafting techniques. Sashiko explores the history and uses of this striking stitching technique, from its origins in mending to its use today in decorating useful and ornamental items alike. The book contains 20 sashiko projects, from small items like brooches to large-scale projects for the home. It also contains 20 patterns and motifs that readers can use as the basis to create their own projects. Wilderness Knits explores Scandinavian knitting. The sweater, cardigan, and headband patterns in this book are as cosy as they are outdoors-ready.

A spread from Colours of Nature

Also new to the shop is Colours of Nature, a new book on natural dyeing from G-ULD yarns in Denmark. With lovely images and practical guides to all stages of the natural dyeing process, this book demystifies this practice for anyone who wants to get started. G-ULD has extensive experience in this department, so you really couldn’t do much better than a how-to guide straight from the source. The fact that it’s also just a beautiful book is sure to make it an instant classic.

Special Deliveries

Delightful yarns just keep arriving at the shop! This week we’ve been treated to deliveries from Lichen and Lace, Lang, and Rico. Our entire stock of Lichen and Lace — Merino Fingering, Rustic Heather Sport, and Sock Minis — have been replenished. These skeins are perfect for shawls, cosy mittens, and, of course, socks! More sock yarn has also arrived in the form of Lang Jawoll Sock Yarn. This lovely yarn mixes wool with a bit of nylon and acrylic to make your socks more durable. Two skeins make one pair of socks, which means these yarns are perfect for stripes, colourwork, and mixing and matching to the heart’s delight. Skeins of Rico’s washable Soft Merino Aran and playful Ricorumi Cotton DK have arrived as well. We’ve also received more Monk’s Cloth for punch needle from Rico, including the brand new colour Mustard.

Kits

With the holiday lights switched on this week in our London neighbourhood, it’s really beginning to feel festive. It’s a perfect time to pick up one of our kits, either to make yourself or to give as a gift to the knitters on your list this year. Florence Shawl Kits, On the Spice Market Kits, and Winter Tiny Tassel Kits are all back in stock, plus tons more fun bundles with everything you need to finish a project!

Happy weekend, Loopettes!
