Plucky Knitter primo fingering weight is one of those yarns that the minute you pick it up and feel it, you know it’s something special.

Based in Michigan state in the Great Lakes region of the United States, Plucky Knitter has been a family run business since 2007. With a passion for creating hand-dyed yarns in one of a kind colours and custom luxury bases, their goal is to create exquisite yarns that inspire creativity and makers worldwide.
We asked them what inspires them in creating their unique colourways.
“ As a collective group of colour enthusiasts, we find inspiration in every facet of our lives. Right now, nature and travel (or dreaming of travel) are high on the list! Colours we see stepping outdoors or taking in new sites could keep us mixing and whisking endlessly. And then, of course, there is dessert; who doesn’t want their yarn to match their Berry Cordial?!“
We have a few bespoke colours created just for Loop. Joni’s River (named after Joni Mitchell), Speckled Dusk,Clafoutis, I dream of India and London Dusk.
One of the primary influences that help determine Plucky bases is their desire to source quality fibres that will be a joy to work with and create luxurious fabrics. That encompasses many things, such as what the blend will be, how the fibre will be spun, and the best use for the yarn.
Primo Fingering is incredibly versatile. With its 20% cashmere,75% merino and 5% manufactured fibre content, it is perfect for shawls and cowls but also socks! With its smooth and round structure, Primo has excellent stitch definition and an amazing drape!
There have been many great collaborations with Primo Fingering over the years.
Our very own Under the Milky Way designed for Loop by Melanie Berg comes to mind. We have the single printed pattern and some beautiful kits, including three full skeins of Plucky Knitter Primo fingering and the pattern to make this sophisticated beauty.
Under the Milky Way consists of a broad band of slipped stitches which twinkle at the edge of this cosy triangle shawl. If you choose different colours, choose two high contrast colours to help the slip stitch motif stand out.
The Ashburn shawl is another stunning shawl designed by Melanie Berg. An asymmetrical, sumptuous and cosy shawl created with Plucky Knitter Primo creates various textured stitches and endless colour combination possibilities.
Centre Lane is a gorgeous wrap designed by Jill Zielinski of Knitterella with Plucky Knitter Primo. There is the choice of a larger, 4-colour design or a smaller version. We think this would be stunning with combinations of some of the speckled colours as a main colour and solids for the stripes and chevron border. You could also try some mini skeins to mix in for the stripes. So many possibilities for colour play!
