Previewing the new issue of Laine Magazine
There’s one week to go until Laine Issue 12 is published and the lovely people at Laine Publishing are giving us a sneak peak today on Ravelry.
We’ve been looking forward to this issue for a long time now. It features some of our favourite makers and collaborators, including La Bien Aimée, mYak, Judit Gummlich and QuaintMarie. As usual, the issue also features some really incredible new patterns. We are already scheming how to get all of these on our needles this autumn. Here are a few of the things we’re most looking forward to with this issue.
mYak is truly the belle of the ball this time around. Co-founder Paola Vanzoa was interviewed for the issue and the Woven Bands sweater by Claudia Eisenkolb uses mYak Tibetan Cloud. The latticed cables of this gorgeous sweater bring incredible texture to this garment. We’re huge fans of this wool—both in the rich grey Cladonia colour Claudia used and in the 15 other colours we carry, all of which would look great in this pattern.
We are wild about Paola and mYak’s work. Not only are their yarns super soft and bouncy, but also there’s a beautiful story behind the brand. It all started with an Italian veterinarian’s quest to help a sick yak in Tibet and today it’s still driven by care for the animals and nomadic communities at the source. The finished product is a stunning showcase of the craftsmanship of the workmen at the finest Italian woollen mills where their fibres are spun. We were lucky enough to profile Paola last year in our Meet the Maker series and we can’t wait to read her conversation with Laine!
The cover of Issue 12 is graced by the beautiful Niveous colourwork sweater by Luuanne Chau, which uses yarns from Blue Sky Fibers. Loop carries the worsted weight Woolstok yarn that forms the base in Cast Iron (pictured) as well as 26 other colours. For the soft, wispy colourwork, the Qing Fibres Melted Baby Suri would substitute well for BSF’s Brushed Suri. If you wanted to go for a slightly different texture with the colourwork, the pattern gives leeway to use any DK yarn, and we have a huge selection to choose from. We’d be particularly interested to see this pattern with Biches & Buches Le Gros Silk and Mohair, Old Maiden Aunt Alpaca Silk Sportweight/Light DK or Plucky Knitter Primo DK.
There’s plenty more to drool over in this issue, and we can’t wait to share it all with you. We’re especially excited to be hosting a QuaintMarie Lady giveaway in partnership with Laine to celebrate the launch from Monday 13 September.
