Shimmering Silk & a Fab Gadget

Spring is fast approaching and what better way to get in the mood than with some stunning Mulberry silk? This gorgeous 100% silk DK yarn from Louisa Harding comes in 15 jewel-like colours and is perfect for projects you’ll want to wear when the weather finally warms up. Equally stunning in stocking stitch or lace, you’ll enjoy making every shimmery, smooth stitch whatever project you choose!

Here we’ve chosen to do a swatch (in colour 36 Golden) of our free pattern, the Beginners Lace Shawl – absolute luxury knitting on some rosewood needles (try our short ones for swatching and lace edgings or our glorious longer versions from Lantern Moon).

Knitting the shawl with a DK silk like Mulberry means you’ll get a slightly thicker, weightier shawl than our original, with an absolutely divine drape. Perfect for that spring wedding you’re going to, right? We think it’s heavenly! There is also a booklet from Louisa Harding with gorgeous patterns to make the most of this luxurious yarn, available in our shop here.

For those of you not quite ready for the spring thaw (or who are in doubt that it’s coming any time soon!) we have a nifty new gadget for solving all your twisted, tangled, colourwork problems. Whether you’re working on one of the beautiful motifs from Kate Davies’ Colours of Shetland, or making a lovely, cosy striped shawl, the ‘Yarn Pet Duo‘ is your friend!

To use it, you just pop your yarn ‘cakes’ onto each of the little stands, and thread the strands through the yarn guides. We tested it using the Ursula motif from Colours of Shetland, and it worked a dream!

No twisted strands of yarn to untangle as you go! Hurrah!

There will be lots more lovely new products popping into the shop for spring, so stay tuned and keep an eye on our online shop!

p.s. Next week we are going to share a free shawl pattern from the knitting superstar that is Stephen West!
