Textile treasures and new mini skein bundles at Loop

Textile treasures and new mini skein bundles at Loop

Anne Kelly’s textile art always inspires and brings us joy, so we are thrilled to have some of her new textile art pieces in the shop.

Anne’s lace and stitched textile embroidered houses are incredibly charming, and each one is made from collage vintage fabrics and hand-painted birds and landscapes on a small wooden frame. These would be beautiful on display on a shelf or mantle piece as they are finished on all sides.

Anne uses various techniques in her work such as block printing mixed with vintage lace, cotton and linen to create remarkable narratives inspired by her travels and textile traditions worldwide.
And the house motif has been an inspiration for a long time in Anne’s work which led her to create a series using her trademark mix of textiles and stitching.

Just look at the incredible stitched and embroidered detail on the sides of the ‘Lace Bird Houses’ !

Each lace bird house has had fabric sewn together by hand and machine and finished with Anne’s signature stitching. We think they are absolutely delightful!

Book Signing Event at Loop

If you would like to see some more of Anne’s beautiful work in person, join us in celebration of London Craft Week on Friday the 8th of October to visit with Anne Kelly! She’ll be signing her books Textile Travels and Textile Folk Art from 4-5:30 pm in our Islington shop. You can see more of Anne’s textile creations such as her beautiful lace patched and stitched Bird Houses, as well as some smaller objects such as brooches and stitched images. No need to book; simply stop by and say hello. You’ll also receive a 10% discount on the books, and it includes a small gift with your purchase.

Amanda Banham Ceramic Houses

Amanda Banham keeps our house theme going this week by bringing us some of her lovely stitched and mended roof ceramic houses. We adore her Raku fired houses with their crackled appearance and darned roofs. A street in Amanda’s hometown of Saffron Walden initially inspired the houses. On daily strolls around the neighbourhood with her daughter and dogs, Amanda would make up stories about the people of Castle Street and what they were doing in their houses. Then, she started making miniature versions of the houses in clay. We are expecting her new collection any day now so keep an eye on our website for new stock!

The Uncommon Thread

The Uncommon Thread yarns in glorious colour in the shop!

We are officially at the start of autumn, so it’s great timing to restock all the Uncommon Thread bases. We love Ce’s bright and beautiful colours as well as the gorgeous, high-quality yarns. Each base uses BFL or Merino wool for a super soft fabric for wearing next to the skin. All of the Uncommon Thread yarns are lovingly hand-dyed in their studio in Brighton. Choose from Uncommon Thread’s BFL Singles , BFL Sport/Light DKLush Worsted or Tough Sock for luxuriously soft garments and accessories.

Preorders

Some exciting new publications are launching at the end of October! You won’t want to miss either of these publications. Veera Välimäki’s Stripes is full of gorgeous patterns in a vast array of yarns of different weights for all seasons. We stock many of the yarns used in this book, and the photography and quality of printing from Laine Publishing is, as always, stunning.

And of course, Making Magazine, inspired by dusk’s colours and moods, doesn’t disappoint with its mix of crafts for makers of all sorts.

More Classes Scheduled

If you’re feeling inspired but feel like you might need to brush up on some techniques, we have more ‘Improver’s Kitting’ classes scheduled for November, held over three Thursday evenings in the shop.

Happy knitting and see you soon !
