‘Worsted’ and ‘Contrasts’ Sample Preview, a Very Special Issue of Embroidery Magazine, and New Beauties in the Shop!

Tomorrow is the big day! Aimée Gille of La Bien Aimée and Sini Kramer of Laine Publishing are on their way to the shop to celebrate two phenomenal books. Here’s a closer look at some of our favourite patterns from ‘Worsted’ and ‘Contrasts’ that you’ll be able to see in person this weekend!

Sampling Worsted

‘Worsted – a knitwear collection’ is Aimée Gille’s first book, with contributions from some of her favourite designers.

Aimée is currently en route from gay Paris with her arms loaded with samples from her lovely book ‘Worsted‘. Tomorrow (Saturday 29 April) from 11:30 am – 1 pm and 3-5 pm she’ll join us in the shop for a trunk show and book signing with plenty of opportunity to chat about yarn and colours. She’ll share samples of all 14 patterns from ‘Worsted’ in two different sizes (straight and plus size) for your perusal.

We are so excited that Sylvia Watts-Cherry, the designer of the Amina Sweater and Amina Cowl, will also join us in the shop on Saturday. Her design is knit intarsia in the round, so this is a great opportunity to get your hands on a sample and figure out how it looks on the wrong side! Nancy Marchant’s Canal Poncho is another beautiful challenge for the experienced knitter, using a combination of intarsia and stranded knitted cables. This one also offers a great opportunity to play with all the beautiful colours of Corrie Worsted. If ponchos are your thing but intarsia is not, don’t forget to come back Sunday to see the Laine poncho from ‘Contrasts‘! The dropped shoulder and super fun pockets on Andrea Mowry’s Andrea cardigan look like a blast to knit and a dream to wear. This updated take on the classic cardigan is sure to be a gorgeous wardrobe staple for years to come.

Loop’s shop sample of Azucena by Nadia Crétin-Léchenne in ‘Worsted’

In addition to the lovely samples Aimée will bring, we are thrilled to have a shop sample of the Azucena Sweater designed by Nadia Crétin-Léchenne and knit by our very own Loopette Juliet! This version uses Corrie Worsted in Peach Sweater as a main colour with De Rerum Natura Gilliatt Creme Anglaise augmenting Corrie Hegelia and Fluoro Morganite for the colourwork. The combination is just lovely. Doesn’t it make you want to start casting on right now?

Sampling Contrasts

Contrasts is Meiju K-P’s first book

We’re celebrating another book debut on Sunday 1 May with Meiju K-P’s ‘Contrasts‘. Sini Kramer will return to the shop from 1 – 4:30 pm to launch this gorgeous book celebrating the textures and patterns you can make with knitting. In addition to some lovely samples for you to browse we’ll have 34 signed copies of ‘Contrasts‘ available to purchase, super exciting as these are flying off the shelves! If there are any copies of ‘Contrasts’ left at the end of the weekend they will be available to purchase on the website on Sunday evening at 5pm.

The Long Road Cardigan is an instant classic combining chevron cables in contrasting directions and on different scales, there is tons of detail to draw the eye and the overall effect is just beautiful. Worked in a worsted weight yarn, you could even use LBA’s Corrie Worsted for this one if you really wanted a project to celebrate our big weekend of events. The delicate Solina, meaning ‘water sounds’ in Finnish, is a beautiful illustration of how minor differences in stitches can tell wildly different stories. The wrist detail in particular is so so elegant. Sini will have 11 other samples from ‘Contrasts‘ with her, including Blue Moment, Vuolle, Alku, Wild Fields, and more.

La Bien Aimée Corrie Worsted Confetti in Greybow

Visitors to the shop this weekend will also get an extra special chance to buy skeins of La Bien Aimée Corrie Worsted Confetti in Greybow. Confetti grew out of Aimée’s desire to recycle some of the waste yarn that came out of designing Corrie Worsted and other beautiful yarn bits from the LBA studio. This yarn is only produced in very limited runs, and our last run sold out very quickly. As with our stock of signed ‘Contrasts’ books, any stock of Confetti in Greybow still left by the end of the weekend will be available online Sunday evening at 5pm.

Don’t Forget Your Tote

Whether you’ll be with us in person or in spirit, our Special Edition Loop Bag with La Bien Aimée & Laine is the perfect way to commemorate the amazing weekend of yarn, friends, and creativity. This sturdy tote is great as a project bag or for the weekly grocery run. Using La Bien Aimée’s signature yellow, this tote truly encapsulates everything this weekend will represent!

Embroidery Magazine

The cover of the May/June 2022 issue of Embroidery Magazine

We always love to get a new issue of Embroidery Magazine, but the May/June 2022 issue is extra special. Many of you will have already spotted that work by one of our favourite artists, Julie Arkell, graces the cover of this issue! Plus Celia Pym and Anne Kelly, two long-time collaborators, are profiled inside. We always love to see wonderful women celebrated and it is so special that all three of these firm friends are featured in the same issue! If you’re keen to learn more pick up the latest issue, or check out the workshops we have planned with JulieAnne, and Celia and browse some of Anne’s and Julie’s handmade textile art at Loop!

Handmade Stitch Markers

The most beautiful and sweet stitch markers have arrived from California. These handmade treasures come in sets of five representing different critters from the natural world. The Animal sets celebrate cats, birds, squirrels, and rabbits; the Garden Visitors sets brightly represent dragonflies, bees, butterflies, and ladybirds; and the Woodland sets depict wild rabbits and owls along with their forest flora companions. These beauties are lovingly made using semi-precious gemstones, Czech glass beads, and antiqued bronze charms.

See you in the shop this weekend with Aimée and Sini! We respectfully ask you to wear a face covering, if you are able, to keep each other safe.
