Anniversary Special #11: Sous Sous version two! And Julie Arkell Beauties

It’s hard to believe it was more than 10 years ago that Norah Gaughan first designed the Sous Sous sweater for Loop. Now, to celebrate two decades of Loop, Norah has designed a brand new version, and we’re falling in love with it all over again!

Norah is one of the most original and prolific knitwear designers around, and it’s truly an honour to have the opportunity to collaborate with her. In the original Sous Sous, she was able to perfectly capture the Loop vibe in a pattern that’s also undeniably “Norah”. Even all these years later, we’re still totally in awe.

Named for a graceful ballet movement that shifts from side to side or front to back, this pattern embodies the ease and flow we all aspire to in our knits. And just like the ballet sous sous, the sweater embodies both fluidity and unity, with an elegant cable drawing everything together.

The original Sous Sous was designed in a wonderfully substantial DK weight yarn. For this 20th anniversary update, Norah has taken a lighter approach, using The Uncommon Thread’s Uncommon Everyday. This 4ply yarn brings a whole different feeling to the piece, giving it an wavy drape. In addition to a new yarn, there are a few refinements in the Sous Sous II pattern that make it feel even more elegant and modern than the first one. This version retains Norah’s signature style of textures, stitch motifs, and cables, making it an incredible knit. The Uncommon Thread yarn has the most beautiful stitch definition, which is perfect for this design.

We are super thrilled to offer a Kit for the updated Sous Sous in a selection of three stellar colours from The Uncommon Thread: “Space Oddity”, “Tea Smoked”, and “Olive Leaf”. It contains a printed version of the updated pattern, a Loop project bag, and all the yarn you’ll need. The kit is available in two sizes, to make either size 1-3 or 4-6 in the pattern. For sizes 7 and 8, please purchase an extra skein of Uncommon Everyday in your choice of colour. We can’t wait to spend another decade with Sous Sous !

Julie Arkell Window Delights

We’ve been absolutely blown away by the window Julie Arkell created for our 20th anniversary. It has been such a joy to turn up each day and see the sweet vignettes and conversations she has created between her creatures. Now the time has come to send them all to their new homes, and though we’re sad to see them go, we’re delighted they’ll soon find new joy with all of you. From today, all of Julie’s 20th anniversary window pieces that haven’t already sold will be listed on our website, but we don’t expect them to hang around for long! These one-of-a-kind pieces are so special, and we are pleased to be able to share them with all of you.

USA Shipping Update

US customers, further to our update on shipping and tariffs last week, please note orders are paused from the 22nd to 29th of August. This is because parcels sent this week may not clear customs before new tariffs take effect on the 29th, so this short pause helps avoid surprise costs or returns. All other international and UK orders are unaffected. Posting parcels to the USA will resume on the 29th of August, when the new system will be in place. In the new system, you will see the new tariff itemised on your final total. This means that once it is shipped to you, there should be no further charges to you when your parcel lands in the USA. Royal Mail is estimating the extra fees to be between 6% and 10%. Thanks so much for your patience!
