Faire Magazine’s Last Hurrah!
As crafters, we know even our very favourite projects must one day come to an end. And so it is that after five glorious years, Faire Magazine has released its last print issue.
Launched in the depths of the pandemic, Faire has been a true beacon over the course of 14 incredible issues. Ruth Ribeaucourt and the wonderful people she works with have told beautiful stories about art and artists in images and words that genuinely honour their subjects.
Ruth is an artist in her own right, having launched a jewellery line in 2010 when she stepped off the corporate ladder in favour of a slower life in Provence, France. Through this work she started getting commissions to photograph and write stories for craft magazines. When she guest edited an issue of What Women Create in 2020, the dream of having her own magazine was born. Since 2021, Ruth has poured her heart and soul into each issue of Faire, and we’ve been in total awe of the stunning stories she has brought to us.
In this final issue, Ruth is taking Faire out in style. She has assembled a collection of her absolute dream stories. Artists she never dreamed would say yes, places she always wanted to go. The result is a globetrotting adventure through some of the most creative spaces you can imagine, full of life, love, and creative sparks.
Though we’re saying goodbye to Faire Magazine, the Faire project is far from over. Ruth has now opened a gallery in the village of Ménerbes in Provence, and is hoping to use the space to bring people together and create deeper community. We’re sending Ruth every bit of love for the next step in Faire’s journey.
A Bounty of Haberdashery and More!
If you’re looking for some truly exquisite scissors, Sajou’s handmade snips are perfection. In Tortoiseshell “S” Style and “Mother of Pearl” Flower, these beauties are utterly gorgeous, but beyond that they are true pieces of craftsmanship, with a team of twelve people working to produce each one, and even custom making each blade to fit the other. It is just so beautiful to find a tool that has been given this much care. The Tortiseshell “S” Style is now a rare find, so we’re super pleased to have them. And the Mother of Pearl style uses excellent immitation materials to hark back to 19th-century sewing traditions while making the snips more comfortable and easy to handle. We totally adore these.
We’ve received so many lovely tools this week! One of our favourite tools from Clover, a brilliant Embroidery Threader, is now available in a jazzy limited edition purple. We also have a new Fine Water Erasable Marker from Clover. This is the ideal tool for marking where you want your stitches or other elements on you fabric without leaving permanent marks—even on delicate fabrics! Finally from Clover we have received a very clever Stuffing Tool for Toys, which is especially great for Amigurumi. Whether you’re placing stuffing, cotton, or pellets, this tool helps you get your materials just where they need to go without any fuss.
Beautiful books! We’ve stocked up on books from Isager as well as some of their printed patterns. In Marianne Isager’s long and illustrious career in knitwear design, she has preserved the craft while continuing its development, and her insights are always valuable—plus, her designs are gorgeous! We also have received more copies of Make London, the ultimate guide to making things in the city (and we’re not just saying that because we’re featured!)
Our Embroidered Sophie Kit is in stock in all four fabulous colourways. These kits come with a skein of Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy and a ball of Camarose Midnatssol along with a Loop project bag and illustrated instructions for adding an embroidered flower. You can also include a printed pattern if you like, just remember to select the pattern option from the dropdown menu! Our Pinwheel Mitt Kit is in stock as well! These mitts have become a favourite for a reason, and they’re the perfect accessory for seasonal transitions, too!
Finally, we’re thrilled that The Uncommon Thread’s BFL Sport/Light DK has arrived. Super versatile, this yarn can be used for patterns that call for sport or DK weight yarn, and we have it in more than 50 colours! We love the yarns from this Brighton-based studio, which balance softness and strength with rich colours that we just can’t get enough of.
