The Perfect Kit for Beginner Knitters

The Perfect Kit for Beginner Knitters

You never forget your first knit. The first time you pick up a pair of needles, the awe at seeing your piece grow, the pride you feel when you get to wear your first scarf or hat—no matter how many little mistakes you might have made.

But your first knit can also feel overwhelming. Choosing needles and yarn, and then finding out your needles aren’t the right size for your yarn. Looking for a pattern you want to make and biting off a bit more than you can chew. Somehow ending up with two (or five or ten) more stitches than you started off with. Luckily, we’ve curated a kit that amps up the joy of that first knit and smooths over all the snags. Our Beginner Knitting Kit takes the guess work out of starting your knitting journey and will be there to support you through each stitch.

Starting off with the yarn, three balls of Rico Merino Soft in either “Elder” or “Light Petrol” is a cosy and reassuring yarn that’s delightfully easy to work with, even if you’re just learning how to work the needles. Speaking of needles, 5mm Clover Bamboo Knitting Needles are easy to hold for hands of all sizes, and gives you a great gauge for Aran weight Rico Merino Soft.

The secret weapon of the Beginner Knitting Kit is Modern Daily Knitting’s book Skill Set: Beginning Knitting. This is a brilliant guide that will see you through your first knit and far beyond, with easy to follow instructions for all the essentials of knitting, plus a chapter covering how to fix any mistakes. In addition, the kit includes a printed pattern for the Loop Beginner Scarf with step-by-step instructions for how to make your scarf from beginning to end. With these two tools at hand you can’t go wrong! (And if you still get stuck you can always come to one of our Knitting SOS sessions! We have two more scheduled for this year and will announce dates for early 2027 soon.)

The Loop Beginner Scarf in “Elder”.

An experienced knitter knows what really gives a garment polish is all the details, so we’ve also included a tapestry needle for weaving in your yarn tails, four stitch markers (including one with a sweet toadstool charm on it), a SOAK mini sachet for washing your finished scarf, and a sweet Loop Haberdashery Songbird Tin to keep all your small essentials together. Of course we’ve also included a custom Loop project bag just for this kit where you can keep all these things together while you work on your scarf.

In the end, you’ll have a beautiful scarf to keep you warm, a bunch of new skills, and the confidence to take on your next project! Whether you want to start your own knitting journey or help a friend or family member start theirs, we think the Beginner Knitting Kit is just the ticket.

Mistletoe Garland

Our Mistletoe Garland is a holiday classic!

It’s nearly time to start decking the halls, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to start making Mistletoe Garlands! Over the years this free Loop pattern has become a staple of the holiday season, and November is the perfect time to start crocheting yours. The garland uses BC Garn Lino, a lovely linen yarn with great structure that will hold up for years of holidays. Our original colourway uses the colours 33 “Natural”, 60 “Pine”, and 61 “Linen”, but with loads of colours to choose from you could put your own spin on it if you want. In addition to making a great decoration for your home, the mistletoe motifs make great gift toppers or even festive jewellery!

Teinture Sauvage Embroidery Threads

There is artistry behind every element of Teinture Sauvage’s naturally dyed threads, from the plants selected to colour each mini skein to the organic ink used to print the packaging. We are so honoured that Céline of Teinture Sauvage has created a box of 20 Teinture Sauvage Embroidery Threads just for Loop. These 100% wool threads are spun in France and dyed only with plants, with no aluminium salts or synthetic dye products. These are truly beautiful to behold, and we know you’ll adore stitching with them.

Loop + Atsumi Embroidery Kit of Nature Motifs

Turn your finished piece of embroidery into a tote bag, throw pillow, or garment, or just frame it!

We adore Atsumi’s book An Embroidered Book of Natural History Motifs, so we’re over the moon that she has brought one of her designs from that book off the page and into a kit just for Loop! The Loop + Atsumi Embroidery Kit of Nature Motifs features a pre-printed piece of linen fabric for embroidering with a specially selected palette of embroidery threads that match Atsumi’s original colours. Everything you need for this project has been assembled by Ototoito, the Japanese embroidery brand that Atsumi oversees, so experienced stitchers and ambitious beginners can get started straight away. Stitch your own botanical and natural history motifs with this wonderful kit!

Selvedge Winter Fair

The Selvedge Winter Fair is a celebration of fine craft.

There are only a couple weeks to go until the Selvedge Winter Fair on Sunday the 22nd of November at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London! We’re very pleased to announce that Rachel, Steph, Rosy and Sonia have each won a ticket to the Selvedge Winter Fair in our blog ticket giveaway. Don’t forget our Instagram ticket giveaway is ongoing, and you can purchase tickets directly from Selvedge as well. Loop will be on stand 19-20 in the hall. See you there!
