Autumn Classes and Workshops

Ready to learn something new? Want to improve your knitting or crochet techniques? Or perhaps you are just looking for a bit of fiber based inspiration? Why not start that new years resolution early with our selection of classes and workshops.

Autumn Classes at Loop, London

As well as our usual selection of beginners knitting and crochet, there also are technique master classes to perfect your skills. Plus we are thrilled to have several designers including Melanie Berg and Cirilia Rose, passing on their secrets of knitting.

Magpies, Homebodies and Nomads.

You may remember Cirilia Rose for her contribution to Stephen Wests’ Midgard. Her own publication ‘Magpies, Homebodies and Nomads’ lets the reader in on her design process with tips on creating your own style, as well as 25 beautiful patterns to knit. To coincide with the release (and with a book signing at Loop on Sunday 16th November!) Cirilia will be teaching a selection of her most popular workshops.
N.B. This book is not yet in stock, but you can send us an email if you would like to be notified when it is.

For technical skills we have Clone Your Closet, where you’ll be able to recreate your wardrobe favourites and the fantastic Intarsia workshop giving you the confidence to add patterns and colour. For those who are lost creatively, her Bricolage Workshop (the term borrowed from the French word for tinkering) will give you Cirilia’s tips for staying inspired and how to create and construct ideas from a variety of sources.

Mairlynd-Berg.-Loop-London.Melanie Berg’s shawls are currently draped in our window creating a colourful display, and she’ll be joining them soon as we are also hosting the designer herself early next year! If you’ve been admiring her patterns in the shop and always wanted to try the design process for yourself, why not try her Shawl Construction Workshop? Taking you through the basic calculations and shape construction, this class will give you the foundation to design the shawl you’ve always wanted to make.

The colour detail in Moonraker (top shawl in the image above) has been much admired, so we are looking forward to her Colourwork Shawls Workshop, where she will explain the methods she uses in her shawl.

As well as hosting our Thurday evening social Knit Night, Juju Vail is believes herself to be the world fastest knitter and can solve any yarn based problem with her encyclopedic knowledge. If you’d like to try her speedy technique then sign up for her Continental Class, which will teach you how to ‘pick’ – a knitting style different to the more typical English method of ‘throwing’.

Juju will also be passing on her tips for finishing techniques, a part of knitting that maybe some of us favour less! Showing methods for seaming, blocking, buttonholes and more, this class is spread over two weeks allowing students to practice in between.

We hope to see you at one (or maybe more!?) of these classes soon. Remember you can book onto any class by calling the shop on +44(0)20 7288 1160.

Finally, we are thrilled to announce the winner of last weeks giveaway. Well done to Michele Behrend, who has won a skein of Madelinetosh Home in the colour Fluro Rose – ‘ like a firework on a grey day!‘ she says. We’ll be in touch soon with details of how to claim your prize. And don’t worry if you didn’t win this time, we still have lots of scrumptious Home to fall in love with plus more giveaways soon!

Happy knitting and crocheting!
