52 Weeks of Socks – an intro to the new book from Laine Publishing!

This week we have the first of two posts on the amazing new book ‘52 Weeks of Socks‘ that is coming very soon from Laine Publishing, who are the team behind Laine Magazine. Pre-orders are starting from Monday 3rd February!

52 Weeks of Socks is the first hardcover book to be published by Laine Publishing, and features 52 different sock patterns from 46 designers. Some by well-known designers, and some by smaller independent designers, and all fantastic!

Pre-orders will be opening from Monday 3rd February, and orders will ship from Friday 14th February when the book officially launches. The book is going to be print only; there won’t be any download codes. If you order anything else from us with your copy of 52 Weeks of Socks, we will hold it in the shop and ship everything together once the book has launched.

The book is absolutely packed with amazing patterns for all kinds of socks, from basic everyday styles to more statement styles with lace, cables or colour work. Lots of the patterns use 4ply/fingering weight yarn for the perfect socks to wear with shoes, but there are also several patterns for socks in sport to bulky weight yarn. Chunkier socks knit up very quickly and so make great gifts!

We’re highlighting some of our favourite patterns this week, and will show lots more next week too! These ones use yarns that we carry, or yarn that is incredibly similar to one that we stock!

Bembe use the colour ‘Fox’ which we have at Loop! Also shown here are Aleutian (left) and Honey (right)

Bembe by Dawn Henderson – Bembe are knitted in Quince & Co. Finch, which is a fantastic everyday yarn! Loop is the UK flagship for Quince & Co., and we just love their yarn!

Woolly Mammoth is a blend of Blue Faced Leicester and Cheviot, which makes it very hard wearing but soft

Gerste by Verena Cohrs – these lovely textured socks are knitted using Woolly Mammoth Natural Sock, which is a great British plant dyed yarn.

Lovely La Bien Aimee shown here in Winterfell, Hegelia and The North

Dear Björn by Nataliya Sinelshchikova – Dear Björn use La Bien Aimee Super Sock, but we carry the La Bien Aimee Tough Sock which is a perfect substitute, and of course has the same sort of colour range.

We have a special Loop colour from The Uncommon Thread – Turbillion was created for our 10th anniversary

Alvar by Fiona Alice – Fiona is the talented designer behind our Mabel’s Sister and Sintra cardigans, and was once a Loopette. She used The Uncommon Thread Tough Sock for colour B of these graphic socks, but you could use it for both colour A and B!

If you have never knitted socks but are desperate to start after reading this post, we have more dates for our Beginners Sock Knitting class with Jane Lithgow! The new set of classes will start at the end of March, and you can book a space and see all the information over on our website.

We will be announcing a more advanced one day sock workshop with Jane very soon!
