Magazines to inspire

Selvedge With Loop Article. Loop, London

Just like finding the time to enjoy your knitting at the end of the day, curling up with a magazine is the perfect little luxury. Luckily for you, Loop has a collection of the most beautiful and unique publications to inspire your creativity. So grab a cup of tea while we show you our favourites.

PomPom no. 10. Loop, London

Now stocked at Loop, Selvedge is the worlds leading textiles magazine.  This issue focuses on knitting and we just love the cover shot by the magical Tim Walker featuring some super chunky Giles Deacon knits. As well as articles on traditional fair-isle and crochet installation art, artist Freddie Robins writes about her experiences with the rise of the popularity of knitting. You even may recognise your favourite knitting shop in the pictures too!

As well as supporting independent yarn dyers, we make sure to stock independent publications too! Based in London PomPom Quarterly is full of beautiful knitting patterns with a modern aesthetic, great photography and interesting crafty articles. The latest issue has just arrived this week with cosy Autumn knits, so grab your copy and get ready for the colder weather in the most stylish way.

ernest journal Loop

Another beautifully formed magazine is Ernest Journal with a eclectic mix of subjects. It describes itself as “a guide for those who are fascinated by curious histories and eccentric traditions and who care more for timeless style than trends.”  This edition has us yearning for camping trips in the wilderness and stories by a bonfire. Plus you can check out their  little feature about Loop on their website too.

With a theme for each issue, this one being family, Anthology is a thoughtful lifestyle magazine. With a collection of stories, recipes and interviews, thinking about how we live with loved ones and how our upbringing continues to impact. It really is a wonderful source of inspiration.

Oh Comely is quirky and intelligent, beautifully produced with stunning photography, illustrations, craft and lifestyle ideas. This issue explores all things green and verdant, from apple orchards to rooftop gardens, plus they have an interesting experiment taking a journey with a travelling 20p machine. Their motto is ‘keep your curiosity sacred’ and we couldn’t agree more.

After you’ve relaxed with your perfectly chosen lifestyle magazine, just as important are magazines with patterns in! Interweave Crochet and Designer Knitting (also known as Vogue Knitting) feature all the latest yarns and patterns to keep you up to date.

A new favourite is Japanese magazine Amirisu – fresh, interesting and beautifully photographed. Issue Five above will be arriving mid September and features patterns from talented designers such as Pam Allen (owner of Quince & Co), Carries Bostick Hoge, Hannah Fettig (Knitbot) and Melanie Berg. This edition contains six patterns and the rest of the designs shown are available as PDFs to download.

New Magazine at Loop!

Hot off the press and just landing in Loop this morning we have Interweave Knits, Knitting Traditions and two new editions of Piecework, a magazine that features a wide range of historical textiles and fine-thread handwork traditions. Also the new special edition Enchanted Knits with a collection of fairy tale inspired knits!

Don’t see the latest edition of your preferred magazine? You can always let us know if you’d like to be notified when new issues are in.

Now to announce the winner of last weeks competition! We gave one lucky reader the chance to win a copy of Stephen West’s new book Midgard… and the winner is Steph! Congratulations! We will be in touch to let you know how you can claim your prize.

If you weren’t lucky this time, remember that we will have lots of giveaways in the future, plus we still have Midgard in stock for all your stylish Icelandic knits.
