A celebration of independent publishing

With the launch of Laine Magazine issue 7 last Friday, and the imminent launch of Pom Pom Quarterly 28 on the 28th of this month, we want to take a closer look at these wonderful publications. Both have amazing patterns that we are itching to cast on, and we are lucky enough to carry some of the yarns that are used!

We’re passionate about independent publishing and honoured to stock some of the very best knitting and crochet publications out there.

There are several patterns in the newest issue of Pom Pom that are knitted up in some of the wonderful yarns we stock at Loop.

Ginkophyte by Emily Greene is knitted in one of our favourite yarns, Quince & Co Tern. We will have this yarn on our stand at EYF, in the gorgeous green the pattern uses, Aventurine, as well as others from the palette which would complement the pattern.

The Filix mitts by Judith Brand are knitted in the amazing Moel View Bliss. This plant dyed yarn is a luxurious blend of 50% merino wool and 50% silk. These mitts are crocheted; the Spring issue of Pom Pom has three crochet projects, how wonderful!

Lastly, Aurea by Stella Egidi is knitted in Snail Yarn Merino Singles. We currently have this yarn in gradient bundles of mini skeins, but we have the 100g skeins coming soon! We will have the 100g skeins in four colours, including the ‘Vintage Mint’ shade that is used for Aurea, with us at EYF. We will also have the gradient bundles at EYF. We have two Loop exclusive colours – ‘Mustard’ and ‘London Greys’, and these will be on our stand along with others!

The new issue of Pom Pom really is a treat. It will be launching 28th February, and we are currently taking pre-orders.

Laine Magazine issue 7 has now launched, and we are excited to cast on some of the beautiful projects in this issue.

Laeminn by Renate Kamm is worked up in Quince & Co Owl, a wonderful worsted weight yarn with 50% alpaca and 50% wool. We have plenty of ‘Elf’, the colour used in the pattern, but we think it would also look amazing knitted in ‘Steppe’ or ‘Straits’.

The Kouhei cardigan by Whitney Hayward is knitted in one of our newer yarns, the Woolfolk Luft. This is an amazing yarn, incredibly light but very warm and soft. This would be a garment you could wear over and over again!

Nerea by Fibre Tales uses a DK weight yarn from Woolly Mammoth. We don’t have this base, BUT we will be getting a 4ply weight yarn from Woolly Mammoth very soon, as well as Emma’s Mini Sock sets. We will be launching this on our stand on the EYF weekend, so make sure to look out for it! There is a lovely feature on Emma of Woolly Mammoth in this issue of Laine, if you are interested in finding out more about her dyeing process.

The cover star of issue 7 is Kiyomi Burgin’s Apricite sweater, and what a beauty it is! Kiyomi used Viola Silk Mohair and Viola Shadow DK held together. Unfortunately we don’t have these bases in stock, but we will have lots of Viola Organic Merino DK on our stand at EYF, as well as other beautiful DK weight yarns in our shop which we think would work as a substitute for the Shadow DK.

As if all these beautiful patterns weren’t enough, there is a guide to London in issue 7, with a lovely mention of Loop!

We have even more exciting news to share with you this week. Loop will be hosting the Pom Pom Quarterly publications on our stand at Edinburgh Yarn Festival. There will be copies of the new  Spring issue, along with a selection of samples. We are also bringing along some samples from Knits About Winter by Emily Foden, of Viola yarn, as well as some samples from Knitting Outside The Box by Bristol Ivy!

Bristol and Emily will also be on the stand to meet and greet and sign copies of their books.

And speaking of Pom Pom Press, we will also be launching the brand new volume of Interpretations, which will be Interpretations 6 on our stand (H1). This will only be on Loop’s stand throughout the weekend, and there will also be a selection of samples to have a look at. This new volume was photographed by Jonna of Laine magazine, so it’s definitely going to be another beautiful one!

If all of this wasn’t enough, we will also be joined by Helga Isager, of Isager yarns and patterns, on Saturday between 12:30 and 1:30 at EYF where she will be signing copies of her newest book that will launch just the week before and we will have all the samples and some kits made up for you as well! It’s a stunning book and we’re thrilled to bits that Helga and her beautiful designs will be with us on the weekend. We’ll have the book and kits in our shop as well of course.

More exciting news is that we are going to be launching a gorgeous new Loop pattern over the EYF weekend. It has been specially designed for us by Fiona Alice, who is a former Loopette and friend of the shop. The pattern uses Viola Organic Merino DK, which will be on our stand as kits. We are utterly thrilled, and we can’t wait to give you more details soon.

Lastly, (phew!) we will also be receiving our copies of the new ‘Madder Anthology 3‘ pattern book just in time to pack in our van for Scotland. So many beautiful things to look forward to!
