A new Loop special edition colour from Spincycle Yarns

A new Loop special edition colour from Spincycle Yarns

Loop is turning 15! Starting from Thursday the 1st of October and through the coming weeks, we are kicking off a month of all sorts of lovely projects and wonderful things for you to join us in celebrating our 15th anniversary. We are starting with the revival of a specially dyed colour from Spincycle Yarns called Venus in Furs.

Spincycle Yarns – Venus in Furs

From the very talented women at Spincycle Yarns, Venus in Furs (a reference to a Velvet Underground song) is a colour we’ve loved for a long time and stocked many years ago. ‘Venus in Furs’ is a beautiful blending of pinks and violets against a background of cream, burgundy and chocolate browns. To celebrate our 15 lovely woolly years, Spincycle have brought it back for us and have specially dyed it for our anniversary with a limited edition label just for Loop. We just adore it!

High Lonesome Sweater

With their long and magical colour sequences, Spincycle Yarns are fantastic for all the colourwork patterns that are so popular now.

Caitlin Hunter of Boyland Knitworks has recently released a stunning new sweater pattern called High Lonesome using Spincycle’s Dream State for the colourwork. Dream state is a worsted weight wool but you can also use the Spincycle Dyed in the wool sport weight for the colourwork if you prefer.

You can really see how the spincycle’s colour changes and shifts in this top-down yoked sweater and you only need 1-2 skeins of one colour in the Spincycle yarns for the contrast colour. The body uses a 100% wool sport weight and works equally well with the Dyed in the Wool sport weight or the Dream State worsted for the colourwork. The CaMaRose Hverdagsuld would make a great affordable wool choice for the main colour or Quince and Co Chickadee or Chickadee Heathers would be a beautiful option as well. It’s also the perfect unisex sweater!

Crazy Zauberball New Colours

Zauberball 2429 at Loop London

Crazy Zauberball is a fabulous sock yarn from Schoppel Wolle in Germany. We have just received some fun new colours of the Crazy Zauberball in the shop. 2427 Föhnlage, 2429 Tapetenwechsel and ,2438 Indigo.

With beautiful long colour sequences of 2 strands twisted together, it’s a very good substitute for the Spincycle . It also makes beautiful socks!

Pattern Ideas for Spincycle and Zauberball Yarns

Some great pattern ideas for the Crazy Zauberball or the Spincycle Dyed in the Wool might be the Ghost Horses sweater by Caitlin Hunter or the Shifty sweater by Andrea Mowry. The Ghost Horses sweater uses one main solid colour and only one contrast colour of the Spincycle Dyed in the Wool. If you’re new to colourwork, don’t be intimidated! Using these yarns makes it easy to take the plunge into stranded knitting. The Shifty sweater uses one colour consistently as a background colour while three contrasting colours making up the textured colourwork using the “mosaic knitting” method. By using slipped stitches, it is perfect for beginners who are attempting colourwork for the first time.

Synchronicity Shawl © Cheryl Faust

For the Spincycle Dream State worsted , Synchronicity Shawl by Cheryl Faust is another fantastic project to play with beautiful colour. We also have a free pattern at Loop called the Ripple Scarf. This is a fun and easy knit using two colours of Koigu PPM (painters palette premium merino) a finely spun merino wool that’s hand-painted in small batches for colour-packed skeins.
All of these patterns make such great use of the shifting colour in these yarns.

Wes Anderson Collection Number 10 Shawl Kit

A wonderful new kit is in stock at Loop! The Number 10 Shawl was designed by Lori Versaci who drew her inspiration from Wes Anderson’s films with his unique and playful colour palettes.

Lori says “ The idea for no. 10 began with Hypothesis Yarns Wes Anderson Collection — 10 colours inspired by the Wes Anderson movies! I loved the colours and the idea of designing a 10-colour shawl. I ordered up 2 sets of mini-skeins and played with them until this idea emerged. I am sure that I was inspired by years of looking at the great modern artists such as Sonia Delaunay, Hilma af Klint, Wassily Kandinsky and Frank Stella, but really the idea just revealed itself as I worked with the yarn!”

This is an easy-to-knit garter stitch shawl. It is very soothing to work and provides a little extra interest as you watch the colour play emerge.

The kit contains 2 sets of 25-gram mini skeins of Hypothesis yarns Wes Anderson Collection with a total of 500 grams of beautiful hand-dyed colour to play with. All in a Loop cotton shopper bag to keep your project in. The kit does not come with the pattern but is available to purchase through Lori’s Ravelry page.
