A new publication from Life in the Long Grass

A new publication from Life in the Long Grass

There’s a new magazine ‘on the block’! Loop is so pleased and excited to be a stockist for the new magazine from Life In The Long Grass. Issue 1, Through The Trees, is out now, and it’s packed with beautiful photography and great patterns from designers like Sari Nordlund and Marion Em. This week we have lots of information about this brand new publication, and lots of beautiful photography.

Loop has been a proud stockist of several different bases from Life in the Long Grass for some time now, and it’s always been so popular at the shop, so we’re so pleased to be adding this new publication. It has so many beautiful photographs and wonderful patterns, we think it feels more like a special book.

Through The Trees - studio house lifestyle
Caroline’s home and studio

Caroline Niven, the talented lady who heads up the small team at Life in the Long Grass, has created the magazine herself, from design and layout to photography and styling, Caroline has been working hard on it all. The feel and look of the magazine is very personal to her, and her passion shows through.

We asked Caroline to tell us a bit about the magazine, and she sent us some lovely words.

“Through the Trees is the first of many publications that we hope to do over the coming years.  I started work on our publication in early 2019 with the aim to represent our studio design aesthetic and showcase the landscape that we work and live in, as it’s a huge source of inspiration for our colour ways and way of life.  I’m delighted to have made it happen and am happy to present a high quality 104 page publication with 9 knitting patterns, an insider guide to parts of West Cork in Ireland, all beautifully photographed and printed on recycled uncoated paper.

Nature is an important healer for us all and knitting is an amazing way to connect to our ancestral knowledge, I hope Through the Trees represents this somewhat.

The designers featured in this issue are Christoper McGovern, Sari Nordlund, Yuko Shimizu, Albina McLoughlin, Stella Egidi and Marion Em. The girls from the studio who work with me modelled the garments and I did the photography, text and magazine design & layout.

“We require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”  Henry David Thoreau, Walden”

The magazine includes lots of great patterns that we were discussing in the shop; all of the Loopettes agree that there are lots of fantastic ‘basics’! There are two different cardigans, two different jumpers, two shawls, one colour work hat, and one sock pattern, as well as a guide to West Cork and all of the beautiful images of the landscape that inspires Caroline.

Many of the garments and shawls can be made using either the Fine Sock base that we carry, or the Merino Sport base. Luckily, we just received a delivery of lots of the beautiful colour ways in the Fine Sock, Merino Sport and the Aran base from Life in the Long Grass!

We hope you’re all as excited about this magazine as we are!

  1. Hey Loopettes,
Wauw, it looks as if this is a must have magazine.
The shawl you are showing here, which quality is it knitted in? And how many skeins? I live abroad and would like to order both the magazine and the right amount/quality of yarn at the same time :)
    Best regards from Denmark
