A year at Loop and new workshops

A year at Loop and new workshops

Well, it’s nearly the end of 2020. While most of us are probably glad to see the end of it, there is a lot to look forward to and at Loop, we have been making lots of plans for 2021.

We wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some of the wonderful things we’ve been able to bring you this year as well as thank all of our customers for your incredible support over the last 15 years!

We’d also like to take a moment to thank our incredible staff who’ve worked tirelessly to make sure your Loop treasures have reached you around the world.

This year we celebrated our 15th anniversary as a small independent business and we honestly could not be here without all of YOU. It has shown us how important it is to support small businesses and we so appreciate the support you’ve shown. Not just in where you choose to spend your money but also in all the kind words of encouragement and appreciation we’ve received throughout this very tough year. It really means a lot. It wasn’t the year of celebrations we were planning, but like everyone else, we adapted and did our best to bring you some inspiration and joy.

As we have always been passionate about supporting independent makers ourselves, we will continue to bring you all sorts of wonderful haberdashery and yarns as well as inspiring workshops throughout the year.

We launched some beautiful new kits this year from Alma’s Triptych shawlettes, the Late Bloomer Mittens Kit, The Loop Pop Spots shawl kit and more recently the Floral KOKON blouse kit as well as Camilla Vad’s new Ellen Sweater kit with La Bien Aimée yarns.

We’ve been thrilled to have brought you some wonderful collaborative projects like the Meet the Maker series of short films and we have collaborated on specially printed project bags featuring Julie Arkell’s whimsical artwork . If you missed any of the wonderful short films we made with Richard Jung, go have a look over at our instagram tv or on our youtube channel as they really are a delight.

We’ve had a very special colour of yarn dyed for us by the lovely women at Spincycle yarns and received some very pretty linen embroidery thread sets in custom printed keepsake boxes from Linladan as well as naturally dyed cotton threads from Temaricious in Japan. So many beautiful things!

Mandy Patullo at Loop!

So, let’s talk about what is in the works for next year! One of the most beautiful and inspiring books we’ve seen on textiles is Textiles Transformed by textile artist Mandy Patullo. We are super excited that Mandy has agreed to teach a workshop at Loop in the Spring! Keep an eye on the blog in the new year for lots more information. Unfortunately, we are temporarily out of stock of this lovely book but will have more for you in mid-January. You can sign up for a stock notification on our website so you won’t miss it.

Julie Arkell Creature Workshops

Also this spring and summer, we have two workshops scheduled for Julie Arkell’s creature workshop!

We will continue to have classes online over ZOOM with other textile artists like Celia Pym whose mending workshops have been very popular. Our Loopette Jane Lithgow will still be teaching her sock classes and offering knitting help online for anyone who just needs a bit of help getting unstuck, also over Zoom. Most of these classes are on our website and can be booked directly through the webshop.

In the coming months, we’ll be bringing you a beautiful new book from Laine publishing as well as a collaboration between Madelinetosh and Shibui knits and of course more incredible yarns, kits and haberdashery.

Schtickle for Charity

Thanks to all of you we have raised over £1000 through our “Schtickle for Charity” sales!  We will be rounding up the fund and making it £1500 in total. Islington Food Bank and mind.org.uk have each received £750 and we thank you for making that possible. We will be adding things to our Schtickle section throughout the year so please keep checking back. It is a great way to find a bargain but also support those in need in these extraordinary times.

For the next two weeks we’ll be taking some time to rest, recharge and enjoy the holidays but our blog and newsletter will be back on the 8th of January.
Our online shop is always open but anything ordered after Monday the 21st can not be guaranteed to be sent out until January 4th. As always, we’ll do our best though!
If you have ordered to ‘collect in store’, always give us a ring before setting out to make sure we are there for your collection.
We hope it is not too long before we can open our shop doors again in the New Year to safely welcome you in.

Until then, stay well, stay healthy and here’s to a better 2021 for all of us.  Much love from all of us at Loop xx

  1. Dear Loop
Thank you – all of you – for providing continuous inspiration and joy throughout this year. I live far away from London and like many others, was entirely alone for 5 months. But the occasional beautifully wrapped package from Loop were delicious treats in solitary times. I’ve also felt part of something bigger and affirming – via the blog, insta, and a workshop with Carolyn Bloom. I finish the year embellishing my hand woven bags with pieces and buttons by Mina Perhonen – for family and friends. Thank you again.
