Anniversary Special #4: Mette Mehlsen’s Anemone Kits!

It’s week four of our ongoing 20th anniversary celebrations, and this week’s launch is a corker!
Any Loop lover will surely recognise the signature style and exquisite yarns of Mette Mehlsen, the incredible Denmark-based dyer and designer. Over the years her knit and crochet scarf kits have been among the most admired in the shop, and her precious cakes of plant dyed wool among the most coveted.

Mette learned to make things with her hands before she learned to read. Her true connection to the materials she uses and the deep traditions she draws upon in her craft are clear in her yarns. Her inspiration and dyeing plants are gathered from the wilds of western Jutland, Denmark, where she lives. She treads lightly as she gathers, always leaving enough for nature to renew itself. Each of her yarns tells a unique story, as the colour will vary based on when her dying materials were harvested as well as what the ambient temperature was when she dyed the lot.

We are so so honoured that Mette has designed a very special scarf for our 20th anniversary. In the Anemone Scarf, Mette has used some of the Loopiest colours found in nature, not to mention literal loops to form the eye-popping flowers. The gorgeous pastel stripes of this piece are knit holding two strands of yarn together (with the gradient shifting gradually as you swap out one main colour at a time) and the flowers are made as you knit using a special loop stitch that incorporates the two main strands plus two additional strands of other colours.

We’ve bundled up the pattern and all the hand-selected, hand-dyed yarns you’ll need into an extra special kit Anemone Scarf Kit! It contains 22 cakes of Mette’s plant dyed yarn, plus a bundle of shorter strands for working the flowers. The pattern is included, as is a Loop cotton project bag. The pattern support for this scarf is excellent — there’s even a QR code you can scan to watch how to make each loop of the anemone flowers in slow motion.

We’re truly already in love with this scarf and just giddy that this summery, festive piece is part of our 20th Anniversary Collection. We can’t wait to see these out in the world!

All our 20th anniversary special releases can be found on our 20th Anniversary Collection page. The treasures we’ve released so far include a special Loop Postcard Book, an updated party edition of Otso the Bear, and a custom-designed 20th Anniversary Loop Project Bag by Julie Arkell. There are so many more beautiful things to come! Many of these are limited edition, so make sure to stay tuned and grab yours before they sell out.

We hope to see many of you in the shop on the weekend of the 19th and 20th of July for anniversary treats. If you are planning to visit us this summer, please be aware we will be closed on Saturday the 26th of July for a private event.
