We love mYak yarns! We’ve raved about their ethical Tibetan/Italian production before, in previous posts. The baby yak wool is collected from scratching posts in Tibet, by nomadic herders and spun in Italy.

So far, we have shown you some of their stunning lace and fine yarns. Today we are promoting the baby yak medium (worsted) weight yarn. It shares the same, super soft, yet strong and hardy properties as the lace weights, but in an 18-20 stitch gauge.

mYak Medium comes in 14 colours, all dyed over the natural colours of the yak fleece, creating gentle, muted solids.

This yarn is superbly light, warm and soft. Perfect for wearing next to your skin. It has a put up of 117m/ 125yds to the 50g skein, which should give you a gauge of around 18 to 20 stitches, depending on your needle size and tension.

We have a range of patterns to recommend making with this special yarn. Our header picture shows 8 skeins made into the cabled Holmes Wrap, by Michele Wang and the Striped Handwarmers pattern by mYak.

We think this would be wonderful as a giant wrap; so warm, but also light because of the Yak fibre.

This generously sized cardigan is one size fits all and would make such a special, cosy wrap for winter. I don’t think I’d ever take it off!

A cowl would be another excellent use of this yarn. Its softness makes it a good choice for people with sensitive skin. This Juko cowl by Olgajazzy uses 3-4 skeins of yarn. This would make an excellent pattern choice for a jumpstart on Christmas present knitting. Knit a couple now and you will never be short of a present come December.

Another great, unisex, all purpose project is Sarah Soloman’s Bonner Hat.
