Brooklyn Tweed ~ Ranch 01 Launch
We’re thrilled to introduce Brooklyn Tweed‘s Ranch 01, their first naturally dyed ranch-specific, breed-specific, single-batch yarn.
Brooklyn Tweed sourced climate beneficial Rambouillet fiber from Bare Ranch in California and had it spun into a soft and springy 3-ply worsted weight yarn. Each skein is dyed using natural materials for a total of 16 beautifully nuanced shades.
Bare Ranch in Surprise Valley, California, produces Climate Beneficial Wool in partnership with Fibershed.
Through carbon farm planning and implementation, Bare Ranch is able to enhance the movement of carbon dioxide down from the atmosphere, where it can be converted into usable energy by plants and animals, and then deposited into the soil.
Partnering with the Earth’s natural carbon cycle in a proactive manner, improves the overall health of our planet, while generating naturally productive soils that support healthy sheep and the creation of quality wool.
Ranch 01 began with the sourcing of fine Rambouillet fiber at Bare Ranch. After shearing, the fibre was processed at Chargeurs in South Carolina and spun at Jagger Brothers in Maine.
Finally the yarn is sent to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to be dyed by the Green Matters Natural Dye Company using natural materials to achieve a palette specially curated by Brooklyn Tweed and inspired by nature.
This is Brooklyn Tweed’s first foray into a naturally-dyed palette. Using a variety of natural dyes, the 16 shade palette moves from soft and subtle to strong and vibrant.
Be aware that any natural dyed yarns (especially indigos) can experience some colour transfer while working and wet blocking. This will lessen over time, and colour transfer to your hands will wash off with soap. You can download a tip card for Ranch 01 here to help you manage it.
Ranch is an aran/worsted weight yarn, typically knit on 4.5-5mm needles. We are delighted to be one of the few carriers of this incredibly beautiful limited edition yarn.

I am so happy to support Brooklyn Tweed and your commitment to US yarns and now for an even more sustainable option. A few years ago I made a new year’s resolution to knit with “local yarn.” I didn’t know what I was saying but it has allowed me to find wonderful companies, like BT, that have a commitment to ever increasing quality, artistry, and support of the US industry and environment. All I can say is THANK YOU and I am looking forward to using this yarn and the patterns that will be using it.
