Christmas Gift Guide
Stocking fillers or presents under the tree, we’re bursting with gift ideas for all types of knitter, crocheter or crafter! We’ve collected our favourite treats for £10 and under, £20 and under, £50 and under…plus a little selection of gifts for pure indulgence… so we have options for all budgets too!
First up is our selection of stocking filler delights for under £10!
Every crafter needs good scissors and knows what a joy it is to have a sharp pair. We use these Yozo scissors at Loop because we love the quality of the blades, which are great for paper, yarn and tape. They are of course ideal for snipping ribbon too and we think these hand dyed ones are gorgeous. Make sure you have enough ribbon to wrap your presents and hang your decorations!
We also love haberdashery that ticks the boxes of both useful and beautiful. Our dainty copper stitch markers with riverstone beads are extra special as they are specially made for Loop. For someone who enjoys knitting lace shawls, short rosewood needles are the answer to working the small stitch count of knittted on lace edgings. Or, if you prefer cables, rosewood cable needles are the best as the wood is smooth and light.
Kilt and shawl pins are especially useful this time of year to ensure scarves aren’t blown away! Chose a shawl pin to thread through a lacy wrap or an ornate metal one to keep cardigans in place.
These handy pocket guides are ideal for beginners, but also great for giving a boost of confidence to improvers. They even provide the most seasoned crafter with a new top tip or two. These books are clearly laid out, making it easy to look up the new technique you are puzzling over or just to dip in and out of when swotting up on stitches!
More exquisite treats this time fall in our £20 and under category.
If you’re not making a gift then it’s always lovely to support crafters and designers who do. Some of our favourite handmade creations include the gorgeous Laura Walker ceramic buttons and these Emily Maude Lavender sachets. Also, now back in stock especially for Christmas are these adorable 1920’s style flapper needles! Each face is hand painted onto the top of the wooden needles, making them lovely to knit with or just to have in a jar to decorate a craft table.
Here are a few more essential tools that will keep your knitwear looking tiptop and your WIPs in check too! Especially good for lace knitters, or indeed anyone who follows a pattern, these magnetic chart keepers will keep you on track. The folder opens out to fit a pattern, which is held firm by a long magnetic strip that doubles as a row marker. Plus, the French haberdashery company Sajou have transformed an all-important tape measure into the most charming design. This vintage style measure has a high quality fabric tape and is rewound by turning the small knob on the end.
Once they are expertly finished and measured up, knits need equally specialist aftercare too. Keep your lace shawls looking fresh with Soak Flatter, a lightweight starch-alternative that adds stitch definition and a lovely smell too! Or neaten up tired jumpers and cardigans with a Lilly Brush, which gently teases away pills and fluff.
We also love these Libby Summers kits that include the yarn and instructions so all you need is the right pair of needles. Beautifully presented in a little box for a thoughtful gift – or why not knit up the design and then pop the finished item back in the box to wrap – perfect!
For luxury gifts of £50 and under, we have a range of project bags. All-important for organising projects and knitters on the move, these handy zip pouches are also great for tablets, smart phone and gadgets that need a home.
If you’re not on the move, but still want to keep your yarn neat and tidy why not use a vintage yarn holder? Made from Bakelite, these are original products from 40’s and 50’s and many also have a needle gauge on the bottom (for old UK sizings of course!). They make lovely decorative objects too.
For the ultimate treats for under the Christmas tree, you can’t go wrong with a beautiful needle set. The ChiaoGoo Blue and White knitting needles are actually made from bamboo, coated with decorative plastic, making them light and incredibly smooth to aid beautiful knitting. For sock knitters, we have ChiaoGoo double pointed needle sets in bamboo and stainless steel, both presented in a lovely zip pouch.
And we haven’t forgotten you crocheters either! The rainbow handled Amour set comes in a nifty little case which includes a handy pocket for all your haberdashery extras. Hooks sizes ranges from 2.25 -6mm ensuring you’re ready for most projects. However, if you do prefer a more delicate design then the smaller set (going down to a 0.6mm!) will suit beaders and lace crocheters.
We’ve sung the praises of Sajou before and we have to again for their beautiful scissors. All of Sajou’s scissors are made in France by craftsmen who often come from traditional scissor making families. Each pair takes the skill of a dozen qualified people to make, making each one a beautiful tool and heirloom.
Extraordinary workmanship is also apparent in these wonderfully intricate Sophie Digard scarves. Meticulously hand crocheted with a carefully considered palette of the most delicate threads they truly make a one-of-a-kind gift.
And don’t forget a card to top it all off!
We hope that has given you some inspiration for your wish lists and maybe some ideas for Father Christmas too! Remember we also sell gift vouchers which can be used to purchase anything in the shop or online. Why not pop in and we’ll be happy to give you some guidance!
Happy Knitting and Crocheting!
P.S. We’re thrilled to have been featured in Stylish Traveller Magazine! This Chinese publication also featured several of the lovely shops on Camden Passage – the perfect place for Christmas shopping.
