Christmas gifts for darning, embroidery and haberdashery lovers
Well, December is upon us! This gift giving season we want to help you pick out thoughtful and beautiful gifts for your loved ones (or just for you!), so over the next few weeks we’ll be posting some great gift round-ups. We’re starting this week with sweet gifts for lovers of haberdashery, sewing and darning, as 2019 saw the expansion of our beautiful haberdashery selections at Loop!
Here we are showing Hikaru Noguchi’s book ‘Darning, Repair, Make‘, Temaricious threads, Clover Antique Needle Threader, Cohana mini snips, Yozo bird scissors, Hikaru Noguchi darning mushroom and Huck embroidery needles
Gifts perfect for darning and embroidery lovers
Loop stocks a wide selection of tools and materials for embroidery and darning, but here are some of our very favourite items.
Temaricious threads in Spiced Tea (left) and Au Ver A Soie D’Alger silk twists
Threads
- Temaricious Threads – we have colour packs of threads from Temaricious, as well as individually dyed cotton bundles. Temaricious threads are hand dyed in Japan, exclusively using plant dyes to gain the beautiful colours.
- Au Ver A Soie – this French company make the most gorgeous pure silk threads, and we have quite a wide selection of them at Loop! We particularly love the big twists of the D’Alger silk; there is a fantastic colour palette available!
- Sajou have fab Metallic Threads – these are also made in France, and are great for embroidery, as well as mending! You could pick a colour and use it for some visible mending on one of your jumpers!
Beautiful Hikaru Noguchi darning mushrooms and Cohana mini snips
Useful tools
- We have several different kinds of needle threaders in store and online – Hikaru uses these regularly in her darning work!
- Hikaru Noguchi Darning mushrooms – these beauties are handmade in Japan and designed by darning and repair expert Hikaru Noguchi.
- There is also a big selection of needles available at Loop now! We have darning needles, but we also have several different kinds of embroidery needles; Huck needles, Sashiko needles, Milliners needles, and blunt Embroidery needles.
- Cohana snips – we just love these tiny snips; they are so useful and very sharp, as well as being super cute!
- We have restocked Hikaru Noguchi’s darning book! This is such a fantastic, informative book with lots of instructional content and lovely photography. We also have Mending Matters by Katrina Rodabaugh – Katrina focuses on mending your favourite denim items with patches and stitching layered together.
Handmade gifts from Loop
In Bottega pouches
These beautiful little haberdashery pouches are plant dyed and then hand embroidered in Italy. Each one is unique, and they are all so beautiful! We had a small batch of these at our New York pop-up, and we are really excited to have them in our London shop now!
Skippy Cotton
Brand new at Loop, Skippy Cotton lavender sachets are made by Emma Mierop in New Jersey. They are perfect for keeping moths away from your knits, in the most gorgeous way! The designs are machine embroidered from original illustrations and are pieced by hand.
The Wee Bears and Dogs
The Wee Bears and Dogs are handmade in London by Lesley McCormick. She uses mohair fibres, with vintage and recycled fabrics. The Wee Bears come in hand papered boxes, and The Wee Dogs come in little card boxes with a hand stitched pillow. They make really sweet gifts for collectors and lovers of handmade objects. The Wee Dogs are brand new for the holiday season! These adorable little collectables have an old-fashioned feel and just need to be taken home and loved.
Visit our blog next week when we’ll be doing another round-up of gorgeous yarns, kits and little treasures that we have at Loop.
