Cosy Kid’s Knits from Rico Design

Cosy Kid’s Knits from Rico Design

September is here, and it’s time for Autumn knits! The cooler months are always our favourite to knit for, and this week we’ve got some fun, fabulous knits from Rico for the back-to-school wardrobe!

Rico Kids 11 is the latest in Rico’s really wonderful booklet series, and this one features 27 stunning knits and crochets for kids from 3 to 12 years old. This booklet is really so wonderful, featuring beautiful photography and projects you can really imagine your kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, or friends living their raucous lives in.

Some of the simpler patterns would also be a fantastic way to bring a keen youngster into the world of handcrafts (with some help from a grown up). What could be cooler than showing up at school in a scarf or headband they’ve made themselves!?

The best news is we have some really great yarns that are just perfect for these patterns. Many of them are designed using Rico Soft Merino Aran, which comes in lovely gem tones, pastels, and neutrals, and Rico Mega Tweed, which is a wonderfully speckled yarn. Some are also knit with Rico Creative Melange Wonderball, for which we’d recommend Spincycle Dream State as a substitute.

But the real showstoppers are two recently arrived yarns, Rico’s Fashion Alpaca Sparks Joy and Kremke’s Merry Merino, both of which would be really great for the patterns in this booklet.

Rico Fashion Alpaca Sparks Joy

“Sparks Joy” is an understatement when it comes to our latest arrival from Rico, which is as light as it is fluffy with just enough stitch definition to give it a really great look. This magical blend of 64% natural fibres (alpaca, virgin wool, and cotton) and 36% manufactured ones will have you thinking you’ve gone to yarn heaven, and its bright speckles will bring tons of fun to your knit.

New Merry Merino 70 from Kremke Soul Wool comes in 30 gorgeous colours!

And Merry Merino 70 from Kremke is a luscious, plump wool. Thick, soft, and elastic, there will be no complaints of itchiness with this yarn. Plus, it’s machine washable, so care for the clothes and accessories you make will be easy no matter how rough and tumble the kiddos get. We are expecting delivery of this lovely yarn today and we’ll have stock ready for purchase by this afternoon or throughout the weekend.

Squirrel Scissors

How cute are these? Little Squirrel Scissors will keep you company while you’re crafting, whether you need to snip yarn, embroidery thread, or something else. Stainless steel blades deliver the crisp and precise cutting you need for your craft, while antique gold finished handles give these scissors a friendly edge. For your own sewing basket or as a gift for a fellow crafter (they come in a sweet box that’s very easy to gift wrap), you can’t go wrong with these cuties!

Blanket Stitch Evening For Ukraine

Lovely Loopette, Rhona, working on the stitching together of blanket squares for Ukraine.

While we’re back in the swing of things with our Autumnal knitting, it’s an excellent time to remind you we are still collecting blanket squares for the people of Ukraine. You can find the free pattern on our webshop. We will also hold an event at the shop where the wonderful people from Hope Aid Direct hope to join us on the night to briefly talk about their fabulous work bringing vital supplies to Ukraine.

We’d love for you to join us at our London shop from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3rd, to help stitch together the squares for blankets. There’ll be light refreshments, and there is no need to bring materials as we will have crochet hooks and plenty of yarn. And of course a big thank you to everyone who has already sent and donated some blanket squares. It really does make a big difference and provides warmth and comfort to a lot of people in terrible circumstances, so thank you!

You can check out more about our event on our website.

We’ll leave you with one more bit of exciting news to share with you. It’s nearly time to preorder this year’s Loop winter holiday boxes! Stay tuned for details on our thoughtfully curated winter holiday boxes, brimming with yarn and haberdashery treasures, which we’ll share in the coming weeks. But, to tide you over, here’s a little sneak peek of the limited edition holiday bag that comes with each box.

Happy knitting and stitching weekend!
