De Rerum Natura Gilliatt – a Loop favourite!

De Rerum Natura Gilliatt – a Loop favourite!
Gilliatt in gorgeous pinks, yellows and mustards

This week we’re grateful to have so many wonderful things close at hand – including Gilliatt from De Rerum Natura. This yarn is fairly new to Loop, and we are so very glad we have it! We’re showing you the gorgeous colours, and we have pattern suggestions this week too.

We hope this post about gorgeous yarn will pep you up a little bit after the turmoil and uncertainty of the past few months.

Gilliatt is a woollen spun yarn of soft French and European merino produced in France in an ethical and ecological way.

The wool consists of a blend of French Merino D’Arles, from Provence, France, and Portuguese black merino from Alentejo, Portugal for the colours that require a brown fleece.  The flocks are raised in a traditional and ethical manner, and for all of the colour ways, at least 50% of the wool is certified organic!

Beautiful blues

We love this squishy yarn, which in the words of one of our Loopettes, feels like butter! The colour palette is very special, with lots of neutral shades as well as lots of bright pops of colour. We think it lends itself very well to colour work and projects that use block colours, as so many of the shades work well in a palette together.

The Gilliatt is classed as a aran/worsted weight, but another one of our Loopettes is knitting it to a DK weight gauge and it’s working beautifully, as the yarn is so springy.

Look at all these yummy neutral shades!

Another thing we love about the Gilliatt is how cost-effective it is! At £11.50 for a 100g ball with 250m, a sweater quantity won’t break the bank, and you can make a gorgeous cabled hat or a pair of mittens with just one ball!

Ideas for your Gilliatt!

So now you’ve fallen in love with the Gilliatt like all of us at Loop have, what are you going to make? Here we’ve picked out lots of our favourite patterns, that you can absolutely use Gilliatt for. We’ve picked out lots of snuggly knits here, great for comfort knitting and wearing, once they’re finished! The smaller accessories would also make fantastic gifts.

Coming next week…

Next week we will have another lovely Meet the Maker video for you, with Autumn Fussell (aka dottie angel) of Curious and Coe! We will have the video here on the blog next Friday, and on our Youtube channel and on Loop’s IGTV from Sunday. You can find our previous Meet the Maker videos there too!

The newest edition of Making Magazine will also be with us next week, and you will be able to buy it on our website. We’ll have a little pattern round up in our post next week.

And lastly, next week or so we will have individual patterns for the new Isager sweater you saw Julie Arkell wearing a few weeks back, Torhild’s Colours. We will also have kits for this pattern available, and they should be with us mid-May!
