Delightful New Spring and Summer Classes
We have some exciting new classes on our schedule!
Throughout the year we offer a rotation of knitting and crochet classes, for beginners, improvers and experienced makers. We also provide specialist workshops. When well-known teachers come to England, they often get in touch with us to see if we’d like to have them teach at Loop. Over the years we’ve been very lucky to have some of the best known international knit designers teach with us. It’s always an honour, and this year it is no exception. This Spring and Summer we have some exciting new workshops scheduled.
Spring Workshops
On June 10th & 11th we have Temari Embroidery workshops. This includes a couple of half-day and a full-day workshop teaching the Japanese art of embroidering Temari Balls.
The workshops are taught by Rika and Naho, who are visiting us from Japan. They hand-dye the beautiful Temaricious threads that we sell at Loop, using plants from their gardens in Japan.
I love beautiful scent, so I’m particularly attracted to the day long workshop making an aromatic Temari ball. Beauty and lovely smells!!!
Julie Arkell
Our next workshop is by a famous, local artist, Julie Arkell. She is responsible for our shop mascot doll (and her costume changes).
We are so lucky to have Julie living in Islington, and teaching at the shop. She has offered workshops, decorating and embellishing her paper mache creatures, for most of the time that we’ve been open.
We love her dolls (we just got some sweet and quirky new ones in!) and her books: Away and Home and seeing her cheery self, when she comes in to the shop to pick-up yarn for her knitting projects.
Julie is teaching her Creature Workshop, June 18th. Her classes often fill up before they’re even announced. Please phone the shop to join the waiting list for her next class or add your name to the cancellation call list.
Summer Workshops
dottie angel
Tif Fussell, aka dottie angel, is coming to Loop from across the Pond to teach classes on June 22nd & 23rd. She will teach simple embroidery stitches, worked upon knitted fabric samplers. Don’t worry if you are not a great knitter – the Loopettes have been busy knitting great simple swatches for you to play with on the day.
Participants will then create Woolly Tattoos with yarn and embroidery on knitted items.
The Flower Factory Workshop
On June 25th we are trying out a new workshop concept. It won’t be based at Loop but at photographer, Kristin Perers’ East London Studio, The Flower Factory on wonderful Columbia Road, with the famous Sunday Flower market going on right outside. Kristin is a well known photographer who takes the photographs for our books and patterns.
We are offering a one day workshop for crafters and makers to inspire creativity whilst giving practical tips on styling and taking pictures for websites, PR and social media (and pleasure!) This class will be taught by Kristin Perers, Tif Fussell (dottie angel) and Loop Owner – Susan Cropper.
It promises to be a real treat! Don’t miss A Day at the Flower Factory!
In July we enjoy two overseas visitors: Bristol Ivy and Olga Buraya-Kefelian of Olgajazzy knits.
Bristol Ivy
On the 8th & 9th of July, Bristol will be teacher in residence at Loop offering three classes: Intarsia, Knitting Outside the Box and Shawl Shapes Class.
Bristol is a well regarded designer from the US, who designed our beloved Teasel cardigan pattern.
OlgaJazzy
On July 12th & 16th, Olga Buraya-Kefelian, aka OlgaJazzy, will be teaching three classes: 3 Dimensional Knitting
and Modular Knitting.
We are so lucky and grateful for all the talented people who make their way through Loop; both the instructors and the participants. Come and join us in a class!
