Exquisite Embroidery at Loop!

Embroidery is one of the most lovely and versitile crafts in a maker’s arsenal. From understated embellishment to full-blown storytelling, a bit of stitching can take you to all kinds of places.
It’s also a craft whose tools and materials are truly above and beyond. Some of the most special things we have in the shop are bits of embroidery goodness, and the history and artistry behind them make them all the easier to love. Whether you’re threading the needle for your first stitch or working on your masterpiece, we have so many special embroidery treats to delight you!
Hand Embroidered Illustration Masterclass

First up, we can barely contain our excitement for Jessie Chorley’s upcoming visits to the shop on 26 April and 21 June to host her Hand Embroidered Illustration Masterclass. Jessie is no stranger to Loop, having previously taught incredible classes in our little abode in Camden Passage. We’re also huge fans of her book Journal with Thread, which shows the reader how to tell their stories in thread and collected treasure.

Jessie’s upcoming visits to Loop will celebrate her solo exhibition, Find, Play, Placed, Embroidered, which will debut at the Ruthin Craft Centre in North Wales this spring before coming to London later in the year. The show celebrates the rhythm of Jessie’s life and her process as an embroidery artist, and most of the pieces use found and pre-used materials. It includes some archive pieces as well as some works in progress, so it’s truly an inspiring sweep of Jessie’s gorgeous work. The Embroidery Magazine issue for March/April 2025 also has a great feature on Jessie ahead of this show. The issue hasn’t arrived at Loop yet but should be with us very soon. Once it’s in the shop you’ll be able to order it here.

Hosted by our neighbours at Frequency Coffee, Jessie’s Hand Embroidered Illustration Masterclass at Loop will focus on the materials, tools, and techniques you need to turn an ordinary piece of fabric into an extraordinary tapestry that conveys a totally unique story or scene. While all participants will receive the essential high-quality materials you need to get going, you’re also encouraged to bring special items from home, like a pretty spare button from a long-gone cardigan or a piece of treasured family linen that doesn’t get as much use as it should. We’re so excited for this day of slow stitching!
Beginner Embroidery Bundle

If you’re looking for an easy way to get into embroidery, we’ve created the perfect collection of materials to get started. Our Beginner Embroidery Bundle is a perfectly curated starter pack. It’s all the stuff we would give to a friend who told us they wanted to pick up embroidery! First up is the A-Z of Embroidery Stitches Booklet compiled by Stitch School for Loop, which contains easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions to the basic stitches you’ll need to start creating beautiful embroidery. The threads you’ll make your first stitches with is Finca Perle no 8, a gorgeous cotton thread by the Spanish family business Presencia. This thread is beginner-friendly in that it’s strong and smooth, but that doesn’t mean it won’t make beautiful stitches — Presencia’s Finca Perle is considered one of the premiere threads of its kind. The tools you’ll need come in the form of a few Tulip Chenille no 18 embroidery needles (which come in a cute glass vial with a cork stopper to keep them from getting lost) and a Clover yarn threader. These products are some of the best in the biz and they’re super beginner-friendly. The bundle saves about 10% compared to buying each item individually, but if you’d like to purchase them individually instead they’re all available à la carte!
Something Special from Sajou

There’s no one like Sajou when it comes to threads with a difference and truly artful tools. This French atelier was originally founded in 1828 and revived in 2005. The name is synonymous with artistry and superior quality in haberdashery goods that are truly inspiring. Their threads are unparalleled. Reliable and durable Laine Saint-Pierre Embroidery & Darning Threads are the perfect go-to for mending and stitching, and with 96 colours to choose from you’re sure to find just the hue you’re looking for. Sparkly Metallic Threads (also available in a Gift Set) bring a little glam. And Tonkin Embroidery Floss Cards combine the best of both into a sturdy thread that also has a little glint. But it’s their scissors and snips we truly lust after. They come in the shape of the Eiffel Tower, a Stork, an impossibly sweet Horse and Cart, and more. And very soon we’ll be receiving some highly coveted Tortiseshell “S” Style and Mother of Pearl Swan snips. We can’t wait!
