Falling for the Sophie Scarf — Again!
It has been years since the iconic Sophie Scarf pattern was first released by PetiteKnit, but somehow we’re still finding new ways to fall in love with this sweet piece.
Over the years we’ve played with different colours, different textures, different sizes, and somehow this magical scarf never disappoints. Whether you’re stash-busting or using a coveted skein, the Sophie Scarf always feels fresh. Still, we all have our favourites, and it’s safe to say the new Embroidered Sophie Scarf is a strong candidate to top our list (if we do say so ourselves).

This is a real Loop special. It features two of our favourite yarns — Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy and Camarose Midnatssol — and draws on years of textile inspiration. The soft, gently textured fabric created by Tweedy is augmented by gorgeously lofty embroidered flowers in Midnatssol, creating a totally stunning finished product that you’ll want to show off everywhere you go.

The roots of this version go all the way back to our 10th anniversary pattern book, when Tif Fussell (aka Dottie Angel) designed the Rosemaling Mitts for us. That pattern kicked off a love affair with embroidery on knits at Loop, which continued with our admiration for the Late Bloomer Mitts by Kristin Ledgett, our total adoration of Judit Gummlich and her excellent book Embroidery on Knits, and so much more. For the Embroidered Sophie Scarf, current Loopette Yvonne has designed the embroidery and created the template and instructions that come with the kit.

The Embroidered Sophie Scarf Kit comes in four colours: “Bliss”, “Connemara”, “Moonlight”, and “Original”. Each colour is named for the Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy colour it uses, with a coorresponding CaMaRose Midnatssol colour chosen to match. The kit includes a skein of Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy, a ball of CaMaRose Midnatssol, a printed flower embroidery template with embroidery instructions, and a Loop cotton project bag. You can choose whether to include the printed pattern or not, as we know many of you have worked with it before! Buying the kit will save you 10% on these two yarns, compared to buying them separately, and you’ll also save 10% on the pattern if you choose to include it. These discounts are applied automatically at checkout.

If you’re feeling inspired to try your own hand at designing embroidery for your knits, Clover’s Water Erasable Tracing Paper and Double Tracing Tool are the perfect pair to get started with. This magical paper lets you confidently mark the shapes you want to stitch and then wipe it all away if you want to try something else, and the tracing tool helps you make high-quality, precise lines. Like an Etch A Sketch for embroidery! These tools are selling fast, but we’re expecting more soon. If they’re marked as “out of stock” you can click “notify me when available” to be the first to hear when they arrive!
