‘Floralies’ – stunning summery embroideries

Wow! Cécile Franconie’s new book, ‘Floralies‘, has us swooning, so this week we want to show you how beautiful it is.

Cécile is an incredibly talented embroiderer from France, with a unique and very decorative style, with lots of beautiful floral motifs. We are so lucky, as Cécile has been teaching a few classes at Loop this Spring/Summer. We’ve been honoured to welcome her back to the shop.

Floralies‘ is jam-packed with stunning projects and inspiring images of Cécile’s work – so delicate and detailed.

The book contains 37 projects in total; including needle cases, quilts, brooch,s wall hangings and bags. There’s a project for every skill level, so even if you’re a beginner, you’ll be able to create a beautiful piece.

There’s lots and lots of information in this book; there are templates and layouts for the embroideries, to help you lay out the designs neatly!

You’ll be able to learn to embroider with knitting and crochet yarns, Perle cottons and beads, as well as more unusual or unlikely materials. Cécile chose some of the Mondo Fil yarns when she was at Loop teaching, which is definitely an unconventional choice for embroidery. We just know she’s going to create something amazing with them!

We’ve complied a few handy tools to help you with your embroidery. Loop has everything you need to get started with your first project.

The Au Ver A Soie threads are perfect for working into projects from ‘Floralies’ – we have small bobbins and sample packs, as well as beautiful skeins of the Soie D’Alger (pictured), which have lots of yardage and a perfect colour palette!

Clover’s Antique Yarn Threader is so useful but very beautiful.

We stock lots of different embroidery needles from Clover, including Chenille (pictured), Blunt Type and Sashiko.

And of course you’ll need some scissors! We’re loving the Joji scissors from Kelmscott Design, which are very delicate and sharp, perfect for precise work.

We are also very excited to announce that we have a few very limited edition brooches, handmade by Cécile, at Loop! They are an incredible mix of stitching with fabrics, embroidery and beading on floral pins. We only have a few of them in stock and each one is unique!

If you’ve been inspired by Cécile’s work, you can see lots more of her beautiful pieces on her blog, facilececile.

And one last note… If you come and visit the Loop shop soon, we now have brand new business cards that feature Cécile’s work! These are the perfect size to add to a pinboard or to send as a postcard!
