This post is a stocking stuffed full of pattern ideas and fail-safe last minute projects in our sale chunky yarns!
Our latest free pattern Eternally (click to download this pattern!) uses just two skeins of the Madelinetosh Home. Cosy and plump, this superwash merino yarn is ideal for cowls and scarves for winter, providing a splash of colour or a subtle neutral.
A pretty contrast ribbon adds a pop of colour and allows you to style the cowl easily. Try the beautiful hand dyed Monahan Ribbon – we have lots of new colours that have just arrived.
The name for this cowl came to Rachel after seeing a ballet called Aeternum, which means ‘for all the time to come’ or eternal. We think its a lovely sentiment that echos the preciousness of a lovingly handmade item and the longevity of craft. Of course, as it is such a quick make why not treat yourself to a few skeins for a little holiday project…
To accompany this new project we are now stocking the Clover Amour 10mm Crochet Hook.
The perfect hook to use with our new free pattern these hooks are lightweight with a comfortable easy grip handle. And yes, these are included in our flash sale too!
Somewhat of a classic Loop project is the Grey Owl Cowl by Juju Vail for Loop. Easy to knit with a simple moss stitch and cable pattern, you don’t even have to worry about button holes as the toggle can poke right though the stitches.
A free pattern from our blog, this versatile cowl takes just two skeins of the Burly Spun, a rugged pure wool in natural fleece shades. Or if you fancy a bit more colour, then we have also used the Quince & Co. Puffin to make an Any-Colour Owl Cowl!
Another firm favourite is the Misti Chunky Cowl by Lydia Gluck for Loop. The alpaca based Misti Chunky is so squishy soft its the perfect yarn to be snuggled up with. Again, a free pattern on our blog (lucky you!) this cowl is a top project for beginners and brilliant to knit up in an evening or two for the ideal gift.
The whole range of Misti Alpaca Chunky will be included in our sale- so that means the solid and melange colours in Misti Chunky, the vibrant Handpaint Chunky and the beautiful plant dyed shades of Best Of Nature Chunky.
Misti Chunky is yarn we return to again and again for their gorgeous colour range and oh-so-soft yarn. Below are two projects from Loops’ book Jujus’ Loops – the Grant Scarf and Snowdon Blanket using a pretty chevron stitch to show off the lovely Misti Alpaca Chunky.
Cowls are such a popular item this item of year as they are so stylish and easy to wear. One more example of why we love them so much is the Chunky Seed Cowl that we whipped up before Christmas last year.
This sample used three skeins of the single ply sumptuousness that is Malabrigo Mecha, that we held double to get the right tension. Or five skeins of the Blue Sky Bulky is chunky enough to make this snuggly cowl.
We have also used the Blue Sky Bulky for the Neck Truffle by Breean Elyse. A free pattern again, this design just takes one or two skeins to make this elegant neck warmer.
All 24 beautiful shades of the Peruvia Quick are on sale too! A great pure wool yarn, this knits up quickly on 8mm needles. We’ve used Peruvia Quick for Nimbus, a cosy cropped cardie free on the Berocco website. Maybe not the quickest knit for gift knitting, but you’ve got to have a project ready for yourself to indulge when it’s all finished!
Also on sale is the Toft Wool Chunky, shown here to make their free patterns! The scarf takes four balls, but if you’re looking for a quicker knit the hat only takes two. These patterns are free with a purchase of this yarn, so if you are ordering online just let us know which one you would like by leaving a comment in the ‘Customer Note’ box. Don’t forget your Alpaca Pom Poms too!
Debbie Bliss Roma, a cosy blend of wool and alpaca has an accompanying pattern book, filled with lots of simple knits. In fact, if you don’t have time to knit a project, a booklet and a few balls of yarn in the recipients favourite colours makes a lovely gift.
Also with lots of ideas for patterns is the Ultra Alpaca Chunky – check out the projects we fell in love with when we first featured it on the blog!
Our flash sale will mean 15% off our 12 selected chunky yarns – that includes Berroco Ultra Alpaca Chunky, Blue Sky Alpaca Bulky, Brown Sheep Burly Spun, Malabrigo Mecha, Madelinetosh Home, Misti Alpaca Chunky, Misti Alpaca Handpaint Chunky, Misti Alpaca Best of Nature, Quince & Co.
