Hand-dyed Loveliness at Loop!
Here at Loop, we can’t get enough of hand-dyed yarns. It’s not uncommon for us to open a box from one of the lovely hand-dyers whose yarns we stock and gasp in awe of the deep, rich colours they manage to produce. Part of the beauty of their work is that each skein is ever-so-slightly unique, making it that much more fun to choose which ones should go home with you. But it’s not just hand-dyed yarns that we lust after – it’s ribbons, buttons and trims too!
The buttons above, for example, come from Barcelona, where the velvet is hand-dyed and assembled on to the buttons. Can you imagine how gorgeous these would look on a sumptuously dyed hand-knit?
The skeins above are super-special too. The pink skein is the completely stunning Uncommon Thread Tough Sock in Les Fleurs. It’s dyed in Brighton, England by Ce, whose colours we just adore! It’s paired with the wonderfully colourful Tilli Thomas Sari Ribbon which is made from recycled silk saris. You can knit with the ribbon on 4.5mm or larger needles, but we think it would be perfect for threading through eyelets at the edges of a scarf or stole (like our Oleander wrap) – we would love to hear what you would do with it!
There’s also the delicate and very special Monahan Silk Ribbon pictured in ‘Granny Smith’ above, left. You could use these hand-dyed little bundles of beautiful silk as a trim for your knitting, to wrap a special present or even to tie up your favourite pair of shoes!
DyeForYarn is another one of our hand-dyed favourites, made by Nicole and Cordula in Germany. Their colours are so unique, they have equally distinctive names, like the one above ‘Fir Tree Coming to Dust’ and other delightfully creepy names like ‘Bat in a Dark Mood’, ‘Withering Crocus’ and ‘Ghosts Fading Under Cold Moon’.
Unfortunately there just isn’t enough space in one blog post to swoon over each of our beloved hand-dyes but you can have a browse at the loveliness from Alchemy, Artisan, Colinette, Hand Maiden, Jade Sapphire, Juno, Koigu, Madelinetosh, Old Maiden Aunt and Shilasdair in our online shop.
And you may have noticed the very lovely backdrop for these photos – it’s the wonderful Babette Blanket, crocheted in some of our favourite hand-dyed yarns, of course! You can find out more about this lovely pattern and the yarns we used here.
I LOVE those velvet buttons. Yum.
I love everything !
