Life in the Long Grass- New Linen Merino Singles for spring and summer
Spring has well and truly sprung in London, and we are turning our thoughts to soft and joyous colour and lighter weight fabrics to knit.
This week we have received some new fingering weight yarn ideal for spring items like shawls, cowls and lightweight tops. Life in the Long Grass in Linen Merino Singles is a gorgeous lightweight blend of linen and merino wool in a single ply. Like other LITLG bases, it comes in Caroline’s beautiful hand-dyed colour palette inspired by the Irish landscape’s rugged beauty.
The linen content gives this yarn a beautiful drape and natural effect when knitted.
We have some new colours in the Linen Merino and the Fine Sock base in Podzolic, Soft Day, Druid, Oir, Green Oakmoss and Firefly. The Fine Sock base is used for the Seascape Shawl crocheted shawl kit we’ve put together from Laine’s 52 Weeks of Shawls book. We think the Linen Merino singles would work beautifully as well or use it for a drapey summery sweater like Caitlin Hunter’s Misurina Sweater or Tamy Gore’s Ashbrook Shawl.
We have more LITLG Linen Merino Singles arriving next week so don’t be discouraged if a colour you love has gone. There will also be more of the Merino Sport and Fine Sock bases coming.
Today also sees the launch of Making Magazine’s 11th Issue; Dawn. We are always excited to receive this bi-annual magazine full of beautiful projects. This issue has over 20 projects and tutorials using sewing, embroidery, weaving, and knitting and crochet skills.
There is so much inspiration in this issue! We also have some wonderful embroidery threads, hoops, needles and scissors for some of the sewing and embroidery projects in this issue.
- The Chorus Wrap is designed by Bernice Lim also known as Yamagara on Instagram and Ravelry. The Chorus Wrap uses Isager’s Spinni wool in 5 different colours to create a large wrap with rippling marled swathes of colour inspired by the shape and lightness of feathers.
- Dawn Pullover is another lightweight sweater with a delicate textured circular yoke designed by Paula Pereira. We can see this being stunning in a more rustic but soft yarn like Jamieson’s Spindrift or a single ply yarn like Isager’s Spinni held with a strand of Alapaca 1 for softness. Brooklyn Tweed’s Loft would also make a beautiful and light garment.
- The Herbalist Tank by Nataliya Sinelshchikova uses a sport weight yarn in a cotton and alpaca blend. We would recommend the Life in the Long Grass Merino Sport or try the Krea Deluxe Organic Cotton.
- Sunset Purse designed by Ezgi Tandogan. The purse uses 6 colours of Scheepjes Catona mercerised cotton to create a sweet envelope clutch bag to keep your essentials like keys, yarn, haberdashery – they count as essentials right? You could also use any fingering weight yarn for this project but we think the Catona cotton or Krea Deluxe organic cotton make a beautiful and hardwearing accessory.
- The Ripple Scarf designed by Susanna Kaartinen uses Quince & Co Sparrow linen for a light and breezy wrap. You can also use BC Garn Lino or a cotton like the Krea Deluxe Organic Cotton or Isager’s Bomulin cotton and linen blend.
As always, if you see a project you love but would like some help substituting any of the yarns or picking out other supplies, we are always willing to help you find that perfect yarn and haberdashery tool or thread. Just send us an email or give us a ring!
