Loop Loves Magazines!

Long Live Print!

Two weeks ago we invited you to peak at some of our latest books, which are part of our huge print section in the shop. This week we introduce you to some of the wonderful independently published magazines that have just come in! It’s a bumper week of beauty –  it’s such a joy to slowly turn the pages of a craft publication and savour the beautiful things we can make.

The last five years has seen a rise in smaller, independent periodicals for crafters. At Loop, we seek to bring you as many good new magazines as we can.

New Magazines

We carry a wide range of knitting, crochet, crafting, dyeing, textile and design magazines at Loop, many of which are smaller publications, by independent printers such as Amirisu, Pom Pom Quarterly, Laine and Making, not widely available elsewhere.

Laine and Making are two of our more recent indie magazines, each covering a range of textile projects in stylish ways. These magazines sell out quickly, but we are pleased to say we have copies of all the back issues in stock now of Making Magazine.

We have the newest issue of Making, No.3 ~ Dots, which has just come into stock today, May 19th!

There is a lovely range of knitting, crochet, felting, dyeing, embroidery and sewing projects. This issue features dots and spots as a motif and a beautiful natural & indigo palette.

Contributors include Kristine Vejar, Cal Patch, Cecily Glowik MacDonald, Tif Fussell (dottie angel) and Olga Buraya Kefelian.

I’m sure this issue will be as popular as the last two have been. We carry many of the yarns used in the projects.  The Dots issue uses Quince&Co Chickadee, Woolfolk TYND and Brooklyn Tweed Arbor. If there is a project that includes a yarn we don’t carry, our Loopettes are happy to advise substitutions. We’ll have a sample in the next week or so of the incredible Awa-Awa shawl, kindly loaned to us, by OlgaJazzy in the shop for you to look at too!

Laine is a nordic-style knitting magazine, written in English. Issue 2 will be in coming into stock on Tuesday. It features simple, Scandi-Style knits, many of which are in yarns we carry at Loop. Designers in this issue include Isabell Kraemer, ANKESTRiCK and Andrea Mowry. The first issue featured very wearable sweaters which made it a favourite.

The new issue has projects in Shibui Silk Cloud, and a lovely new-to-Loop yarn, Snail Yarn Gradient Sets, which just arrived this week.

Rebecca Desnos

The other week, we featured the beautiful new book by Rebecca Desnos, Botanical Colour at Your Fingertips. Now, let us introduce you to her new, independently published magazine, Plants are Magic. This sold out as soon as it came in, but more has come in to stock.

We are delighted that she will be publishing this twice a year! There are 80 pages of plant-based art, craft, food, healing, interviews, stories, experiences, recipes and tutorials, featuring her stylish and inspiring photography. As we enjoy Spring, it will be wonderful to read interviews with a botanical artist, florist, plant-lover and family who live a plant-centred life.

Loop Featured in May Issue of Selvedge Magazine

The May Issue of Selvedge magazine is in the shop now.

We are particularly proud to announce that it features a story about Loop, by Jane Audas.

Lots of pretty Loop pictures and a great article about a visit to our shop.

Knitwear magazine is brought out by Interweave press and has some great patterns. The latest issue has a great story about mYak yarn, which is a new yarn, coming to us in mid-July. We can’t wait to stroke it ~ so soft. Read the “6 Years in Tibet” story for a preview of this lovely new yarn. We’ll also be getting in their amazing limited edition cashmere, some of which will be dyed using natural dyes. Paola of mYak has an amazing story to tell, working directly with herders on the Tibetan Plateau.
