Loop says hello to (Vi)laines!

Wow! Lots of lovely things have been arriving at the shop the past few weeks, and we have been eagerly awaiting a delivery of the sweet little boulettes of sock yarn and merino singles from (Vi)laines. This week we’re showing you these little goodies!

We have the Chaussettes (sock) yarn and the Solitaires Fing (superwash merino singles), otherwise known as Yarnlings, now at Loop.

The (Vi)laines are yarns and fibres born out of the loving hands of an indie dyer, Marion, based in Lyon, France.

The yarn name is a play-on-words based on the french words ‘vilaines’ (naughty girls) and ‘laines’ (yarns). Hence, you’ll find vivid and muted colours, inspired by the stories of little naughty girls who play angels but are also little devils inside. Marion’s logo is inspired by one iconic vilaines, Wednesday Addams!

Using the boulettes are a wonderful way to play with colour using beautiful hand-dyed yarn, to have accents in your knits, and incredible crochet work in a riot of colour. Crochet granny squares, visible mending and woolly embroidery are also perfect in these little bundles of yarns!

We are so happy to have over 50 colours at Loop in the yarnlings, little gems of hand-dyed beauty. It looks like a lot of you love this yarn just as much as us, and some colours have begun to sell out! A second delivery is due any day now, and will include colours on both bases.

We also stock Marion’s wonderful enamel pins at Loop, which feature her beautiful little logo. 

The Boulettes Chaussetts are made specifically for sock making, but you can also use it for baby items, shawls, and the Yarnlings are also perfect to finish up a project, when you lose at yarn chicken!

These little bundles of sock yarn come in so many gorgeous hand-dyed colours and are perfect for adding stripes, heels and toes or any project you where you need a bit of colour. We would recommend Emily’s Favourite Socks, which can be found in Knits About Winter along with several variations – the Boulette Chaussettes would be just perfect! You would need 5 boulettes of different colours for Emily’s socks. 

We have a free sock pattern here on the blog too, and we think the Boulette Chaussettes would be great for contrasting cuffs, heels and toes!

The Solitaires Fing are 100% superwash merino wool, with a single ply spin. These would be great for Stephen West projects, to use in place of lots of tiny scraps, or for a crochet blanket that requires lots of little pops of colour. 

You could also use either yarn for a colour work yoke, or for stripes in mittens or fun shawls! The possibilities are endless!

An Afternoon with Jonna and Sini of Laine Magazine

We’re so excited about this! Come join us for this FREE event from 2:00 – 4:30pm on Saturday the 14th of March! 

Jonna and Sini will be visiting with us at Loop on Saturday afternoon for a meet + greet from 2:00pm to 4:30pm for a celebration of their very beautiful book ‘52 Weeks of Socks‘. 

Samples from the book will be in the shop for you to see and they will be doing a book signing – and there will be more books at Loop! These will only available in store for now, from Saturday. Another delivery is coming, and it should be with us in early April.

A wonderful meet + greet with these two incredibly talented woman. We’re very honoured to welcome them to Loop.
