Meet the Maker: Melanie Berg

Meet the Maker: Melanie Berg

We’re bringing you the first instalment of our new video series ‘Meet the Maker’ this week! We are so excited about this project, which is in collaboration with film maker Richard Jung. Melanie talks about her life, her design process and how the knitting community and the act of knitting gives her and others such joy.

Melanie has a fantastic website, where you can browse all of her patterns, see tutorials and sign up for her newsletter too, it is Mairlynd.de.

We also carry lots of Melanie’s patterns in printed format at Loop, which can be found on our website. As our online shop is currently closed due to Covid-19, you will only be able to add the patterns to your wishlist, but as soon as the online shop opens again you will be able to place an order!

Melanie designed two beautiful shawl patterns especially for us, Wintermute and Under The Milky Way, which are both knitted in 4ply/fingering weight yarns. We also have three different kits for Melanie’s patterns! We have the One More Stripe shawl kit, which uses Walk Collection yarns, the True Colours shawl kit, which uses mYak Baby Yak + Silk, and the On The Spice Market shawl kit, which uses Shalimar yarns. On The Spice Market is currently out of stock, but we are hoping to get more yarn for some kits to be released in June!

Melanie also does lots of wonderful fundraising work, and has raised money for anti-malaria charities, and she also donates money from her pattern sales to charities such as Greenpeace and Plan Deutschland every year.

We look forward to when we can welcome Melanie back to Loop to teach again one day! And we hope you enjoyed our film! Thank you so much to Melanie for taking part, and to Richard for creating this.

We hope all of you and your families are well. Stay safe and keep on knitting!

Stay tuned for future films in our Meet the Maker series – amongst other wonderful people, we have a short film about Julie Arkell that will be out soon! This is such a fun project and we see it as one way to stay connected with you and offer some cheer in the coming days.
