Miga De Pan Embroidery Workshops

Miga De Pan Classes at Loop, London. 'Little Cat' www.loopknitlounge.comComing up in June at Loop, we are excited to announce the dates of the Miga De Pan embroidery classes! Loop is honoured to host internationally renowned artist Adriana Torres, who is coming all the way from Argentina to teach and inspire. With three individual classes taught over the weekend, you’ll be creating different designs and learning creative stitch techniques.

Each one is suitable for beginners and also for those with some experience wishing to develop their skills. We are also looking forward to hosting a mini Miga De Pan Pop-Up-Shop at the same time, 5th – 7th June!

Andrina studied architecture, graphic design, illustration and fine arts and began her career as an art director. After many years she came to bring her inspiration and creativity to her own project under the name Miga De Pan. Translated from Spanish, it means ‘bread crumbs’, and Adriana thought this was the perfect term to describe her work of soft dolls and delicate embroidery.

Her work is characterised by a neutral palette, with hints of pastels and sometimes a pop of neon colour. Tactile crochet and textured embroidery lend themselves to the charming simplicity of her designs – we hope you are as inspired by her work as we are!

A lot of you are happy with knitting needles, but if you are a bit rusty with a sewing needle, you might like to try the Friday afternoon class ‘Extraordinary Embroidery‘. This is aimed at beginners, as well as intermediate sewers who want to learn more about using stitches in a creative way.

You’ll learn a stitch for drawing figures, a different and original way of couching, a raised stitch that looks woven, a knotted triangle shape, a stitch used by tailors to strengthen joints and a lace stitch to finish the work with a simple and delicate look. All these come together to create the illustration (above) by Adriana called ‘Dancing Cat in my Garden’.

Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th June is the turn of this foxy chap ‘Mathemagician’. Both days use the same illustration as their inspiration, and though they can be both taken for a whole weekend of embroidery fun, it is not necessary as at the end of either class, you will be able to embroider the complete artwork Mathemagician.

Part One on Saturday you’ll be learning the basic stitches to create detail with roses or fill shapes with special texture using a classical raised stitch. Also how to ‘draw’ lines and ‘paint’ fills with great definition using Adriana’s favourite – and most beautiful! – stitch.Miga De Pan Classes at Loop, London. Part Two on Sunday will build on the techniques learnt by those who attended Part One, as well as covering the basics for those who are new. Explore creative stitches such as making a raised cup with a woven appearance, create fills or forms of coral, plants, reindeer horns or whatever your imagination allows you!

All the materials are provided for this course, and we are really looking forward to this inspiring weekend – and hope you are too!

  1. Does miga de pan have books that teach her embrod methods?
You are too far from Indiana, USA.
    Advise, thanks

    • Dear Vea, last September I taught some workshops in Boulder, Colorado and in two weeks I will be teaching in Philadelphia, at Anthropologie headquarters. I is sold out but there is a waiting list… It is organized by Sweet Paul Magazine and The Makerie, #sweetpaulmakerie. Hope you can attend!

  2. I absolutely love her work. A trip to Cape Town South Aftica? I would host it for her in my home next to the sea!
