A few weeks ago we announced the exclusive arrival of the mYak yarns (pronounced My-yak) to Loop by introducing the mYak Baby Yak and Silk fingering. Today we’d like to introduce another beautiful yarn in the range ~ mYak Baby Yak Lace . This yarn is a dream; soft, lightweight but strong. It is made of two plies, gently twisted together creating a delicate, lace-weight yarn tailor-made for lacy shawls and accessories. And, oh!, the softness.

Working hard to preserve the natural properties of the fiber, mYak skips all decoloring and chemical processes, guaranteeing an excellent quality product that respects the environment and the fiber itself.

The end result is a soothing set of heathered, earth tones mixed with saturated colors and rich, dark neutrals.

Warmer than sheep’s wool, and as soft as cashmere, this exquisite 100% baby yak is hard-wearing, luxurious, ethically sourced, and even organic!

mYak lace is sold in 50g skeins with a put up of 350 meters (380 yards).

Owner Paola lived and worked in Tibet for many years. She developed long-lasting relationships with nomadic herders in the high pastures of the Tibetan Plateau.

Designed for the conscious consumer who looks behind the label to find new inspiration. mYak yarns draw on global traditions and innovative techniques to offer a lifetime of warmth and elegant simplicity. Yak wool is one of the world’s strongest natural fibers, but spinning such fine fiber requires remarkable skill. mYak use expert craftsmen from Italy’s finest mills, guaranteeing that all of the yarns will last generations.

Paola had sample of Loop’s Piccadilly shawl in mYak Lace knit in Mustard and Night Flower, using two skeins of the main colour and one of the contrast. This is the loveliest hug of a shawl. You can see this at Loop in the London shop.

This yarn is perfect for any shawl designed in fingering or lace weight and is soft enough for people who are sensitive to wool. Unlike wool, or even cashmere, yak doesn’t pill, so items made with mYak lace will wear well.

it’s not just for shawls. This  Veneto sweater pattern, by Julie Hoover, is made in Myak lace held doubled.

Doubling the yarn, and using different colours is also a great way to get lovely melanges.

Or try the Wave Hill Cowl pattern by Kirsten Kapur of Through the Loops. The sample of this beautiful cowl is in the shop.

Many of Kirsten’s shawl patterns would work up beautifully in this yarn.  She has used mYak cashmere for her Acorn and Arches shawl pattern and the Wave Hill Cowl, but they would look equally lovely in the mYak Lace.

The swatch below is called ‘Little Frogs’. Both of the swatches shown here are from the Up, Down, All Around Stitch Dictionary . We use this great book a lot for our swatch inspiration. Who doesn’t love a good stitch dictionary?
