New Amirisu and Minä Perhonen
The Fall/ Winter issue of Amirisu “From Land to Needles” is launching next Friday, the 6th of November. We thought we’d give you a sneak peek into some of the gorgeous patterns this beautiful magazine has to offer. And more treasures from Japan have arrived with new stock of Minä Perhonen buttons and fabric swatches!
Amirisu is a knitting and lifestyle magazine from Tokyo Japan and is one of those publications we eagerly anticipate throughout the year. It is published twice a year and is consistently beautiful and full of engaging content. From fantastic patterns to interesting articles and interviews with other craft artists, it never fails to inspire.
This Issue of Amirisu is full of gorgeous modern garments and accessories that are not only beautiful and interesting in their design but also garments you can easily wear every day. Focusing on texture and colour, there are 12 patterns from designers in Japan as well as abroad, an interview with two yarn companies Nomadnoos and Woolfolk as well as some great holiday gift ideas and handmade projects. Each magazine comes with a Ravelry download code for the best of both worlds, a beautiful magazine in print to flip through and the ease of downloading a pattern onto a mobile device for knitting and reading on the go.
Spica Sweater
Let’s start with Spica, a sweater that has been designed by Rie Vive, known as @kouvive on Instagram.
This striking and graphic sweater design shows off the rustic and natural beauty of Daughter of a Shepherd’s Ram Jam worsted weight yarn. Spica uses colour, in this case natural black and white, to show off the stunning detail of the ribbing on the neckline and stitch detail in cuffs and hem. Ram Jam is a 100% British wool from mixed-breed fleece. It has a lovely bounce and soft halo and the natural colours complement one another perfectly. Ram Jam would be perfectly suited to lots of beautiful textural elements like cables as well as traditional colour work. Spica takes it to a new level of using it as colour work but in strictly contrasting dark and light shades (natural white and natural black). So beautiful!
Nowaki
Nowaki , on the English cover of this issue, is designed by Stella Egidi and is that everyday shawl that is not only beautiful but cosy and comforting during the autumn and winter months. This shawl is all about texture and is the perfect shawl to throw over your shoulders for a bit of extra warmth or wrap yourself in when venturing outside into the chilly winter days ahead. Nowaki is knit in Lichen and Lace Rustic Heather Sport. A gorgeous rustic yarn, the rustic heather sport is a single ply fingering weight, minimally processed and hand-dyed in Canada. This is a new addition to our natural wool yarns at Loop and we are completely in love with it. It softens and blooms beautifully when washed and makes a light and warm garment.
Daalia and Bramble
Daalia, designed by Sari Nordlund is the sweetest beret. Daalia is knit using Brooklyn Tweed Peerie in Arabesque and Qing Fibres Melted Baby Suri in Cherry Hill using the two colour brioche technique to create a super soft and cosy fabric. Using a solid colour combined with the speckled beauty of the hand-dyed Qing Melted Baby Suri means the colour combinations are endless!
Bramble, a pair of fingerless fair isle mitts designed by Dianna Walla, are a great way to play with colour and perfect for smaller amounts of yarn. These mitts are knit in Quince & Co Finch which comes in 50 – gram skeins using 6 contrasting colours. CaMaRose Yaku is another smooth and soft 4 ply wool which also comes in over 40 colours . For something a bit more rustic, the Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift is a slightly more ‘woolly’ yarn but would be great for these as it is traditionally used for fair isle work and comes in over 125 colours!
Akemi
Akemi by Keiko Kikuno brings a fantastic pop of colour to a design that has a fun and modern silhouette. With a seamless design and elements of texture including a fun fringe that wraps around the yoke, it is perfect in Genmou. Genmou means ‘raw wool’ in Japanese and refers to the texture and softness of the wool before spinning. It is a very soft yarn made from twisting merino wool very lightly. There is a second merino thread spun around the main merino fibre. The effect is very beautiful. Genmou is currently on sale at Loop but we still have sweater quantities available in some colours. An alternative yarn might be De Rerum Natura Ulysse sport weight or Quince and Co Chickadee for lots of colour options and a super cosy and soft sweater.

We are so honoured to have these little bits of exquisite handmade beauty to embellish your hand knits or any other special pieces. Each one of these fabric swatch packs is unique with incredible snippets of Minä Perhonen designed fabrics from their fashion collection. Some of the pieces are printed fabrics as well as more delicate embroidered pieces. They really are so special!

Loop Wildwood Kits
Our popular and stunning Wildwood crochet scarf kits are back in stock in the Rose colour. These wonderful kits are made up of 25 bundles of the naturally dyed lace weight yarn by Master dyer Mette Mehlsen in Denmark. The kit comes in a Loop cotton shopper bag along with the printed pattern and all the yarn you need to create the beautiful crocheted scarf.
We also have some of the naturally dyed single cakes in stock at the moment if you would like to increase the size of the scarf or just to make your own unique colour combinations and freestyle!
CaMaRose Snefnug (Snowflake)
We have three new beautiful colours , 7967 Lys Oink, 7975 Koral and 7966 Lys Pudder!
CaMaRose Snefnug is one of the softest yarns we’ve come across and made from 100% natural materials blended with 55% Alpaca,35% Cotton and 10% merino wool. Snefnug knits up on a 4 – 6mm needle and is perfect for the chunky mohair knits so popular now, especially if you would like a substitute for the patterns that hold more than one strand of silk/mohair yarns together, as a lot of them do. The cotton mesh core with alpaca and merino fibres blown into it is what creates a light and airy fabric.
The Darling My Size Jumper designed by PixenDK or Dreamy Cardigan designed by Trine of CaMaRose are some beautiful examples using this sumptuous yarn. The Sunday Cardigan Mohair Edition designed by PetiteKnit would be another great pattern to try in the Snefnug. It is written with instructions of holding three strands of a lace weight silk and mohair yarn together but would be equally fabulous in one strand of Snefnug.
Moel View British DK
The incredible Moel View British DK is back in stock. This naturally dyed British wool is hand-dyed in Wales and is only available at Loop! The botanically dyed colours along with the lustre of the Blue Faced Leicester and Masham wool blend is extraordinary. Great for texture & cables, this wool has all the charm of Aran without the scratchy texture in a DK spin and has been made exclusively for Loop.
We also stock some of Paula’s wonderful Bliss base, a luxurious blend of mulberry silk and merino wool.
Schtickle for Charity
We’d like to take a moment to let you know we have a new category on our website called “ Schtickle for Charity”. Schtickle is a Yiddish word meaning a little bit. With your help, we hope to do a little bit for charity supporting organisations which are doing some incredible work at the moment.
This is a place where you’ll find some really special pieces at a significant discount that might not be perfect or have a tiny bit of damage but still beautiful and useful. We currently have one Sophie Digard scarf among some other bits and bobs available for sale. We will be adding things occasionally as we come across them and all proceeds from these items will go to our chosen charity. At this time we are supporting Mind.org.uk, a mental health charity doing incredible work providing advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem as well as Islington Food Bank.org.uk
Shop opening hours
We have new opening hours for the shop. We are now open Thursday through Saturday from 11 am – 5 pm. We will review these hours as the situation changes and keep you posted.
Classes will still be taking place on Sundays and are not affected. In fact, we have some great new classes scheduled and will have more information about those next week.
In the meantime, our online shop is always open. We hope to see you soon whether it’s in the shop or online and thank you so much for your continued support, it really means a lot!
